Hurricanes, satellite for the whole world, and warnings across Europe. Official warnings now cover most of Europe. Windrose answered for Hong Kong and the United States only, so across 39 more countries the feature this app leads with had nothing to say. It now carries MeteoAlarm, the European warning service run by the national weather services themselves. Because their published areas are broad, each warning names its own area and says it is near you - never that it is exactly where you are - and points you to your national service for the precise area and timing. Windrose now tracks Atlantic and Pacific hurricanes. Storm tracks and arrival estimates came from the Japan Meteorological Agency, which covers the western Pacific - so anywhere in the Americas, the storm card could never fire. It now also draws on the US National Hurricane Center, covering the Atlantic, the eastern Pacific and the central Pacific. A hurricane is named a hurricane and a typhoon a typhoon, because those are not the same word. Satellite now covers the whole world. Our previous provider stopped serving satellite imagery altogether, and the replacement left Europe, Africa and the Middle East with nothing. Windrose now adds EUMETSAT's Meteosat satellites alongside NOAA GOES and JMA Himawari - so cloud cover is there wherever you are, apart from the far polar regions, which no geostationary satellite can see. Warnings that tell you when they don't know. An empty warnings section used to look exactly like "nothing is in force" - even when the check had simply failed. On a safety screen that is the wrong thing to do, so Windrose now says when it could not check, and offers to try again. Aviation got the same fix: a failed SIGMET check no longer reports a green all-clear. Warnings now appear in every mode. They showed only on the main weather screen, so Marine and Aviation could open with a calm summary while a signal or warning was in force for the same place. All three now lead with them. Severe-weather alerts no longer repeat. Switching between saved places could wipe the record of what had already been sent, so coming back to a place could re-send an alert you had already read. The widget no longer shows sample weather. With no data yet it used to fill in with placeholder conditions for another city, which looked exactly like a real reading. It now asks you to open the app. Also fixed: warnings could appear for a neighbouring region when the location lookup failed; a day with a high rain chance could still show a sunny icon; Marine showed sea heights in metres even for readers set to feet; and a completed purchase could briefly report itself as failed.

Rain alerts you can trust. We rebuilt the rule that decides when Windrose is allowed to tell you it is going to rain. An alert now only fires for rain that is close enough to time accurately and heavy enough to be worth an umbrella - which means roughly two-thirds fewer alerts than before, and the ones that arrive mean something. The 7-day forecast no longer hides. A day that shows a thunderstorm or drizzle icon now always shows its rain chance beside it, so you can tell a storm you will feel from one you will not. We also gave some of the free tier back. Free returns to a 7-day forecast, and you can save two places again instead of one - alongside your current location, as always. Everything else in free is unchanged: the live radar loop, the rain countdown for your spot, current conditions, the next 12 hours, widgets and the rain Live Activity. Every official severe-weather warning stays free for everyone. That will not change. Windrose Pro still covers the forecast side: the rain forecast on the radar, the full 6-hour rain timeline, satellite cloud layers, the 16-day forecast, 48 hours of hourly detail, the pressure map, Marine and Aviation modes - and no ads.
