Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Focal is a training, nutrition and progress tracker for people who want to train with intent and understand what is actually working.
Bring your workouts, meals, activity, check-ins and milestones together in one clear place. Whether you are following a structured programme, tracking your lifts, logging your food or reviewing your weekly progress, Focal helps you stay consistent without overwhelming you with a wall of data.
TRACK YOUR WORKOUTS
Log sets, reps and weight quickly with a fast, thumb-friendly session screen. Focal tracks rest times, detects personal bests automatically and keeps a full history of every lift, so you always know what you did last time.
FOLLOW A PROGRAMME
Choose a training programme or build your own. Focal helps you track each week, see what is coming next and understand how far you have progressed.
TRACK YOUR NUTRITION
Log meals by search, menu scan, barcode scan, photo or voice. Focal calculates calories, protein, carbs and fat automatically, helping you see whether your nutrition is supporting your training.
SEE YOUR PROGRESS
Review your training history, spot personal bests and track how your lifts are moving over time. Weekly summaries show your sessions, consistency and standout progress at a glance.
CONNECT WITH APPLE HEALTH
Sync steps, active energy, workouts and heart rate from Apple Health. You can also save workouts and check-in weights logged in Focal back to Health.
TRACK OUTDOOR ACTIVITY
Record runs, walks and other outdoor sessions with GPS route tracking, distance and pace.
APPLE WATCH
Optional Live Sync for gym and Cardio sessions. Start on iPhone and Focal opens on a paired Apple Watch with live heart rate and calories from the wrist. Phone sessions still work without a Watch.
STAY MOTIVATED WITH STEP BATTLES
Challenge friends to head-to-head step battles and see who comes out on top each week.
FOCAL PRO
Upgrade to Focal Pro for adaptive coaching, advanced trend analytics, unlimited AI food lookups, menu scanning and progress photo comparison.

more Profile pictures
When you sign up, the profile picture step leads with adding a photo of you. The avatar picker has five new everyday faces in its top row.
More
When your connection drops, Focal says Syncing, and the same message turns green with a tick when you are back online. Trend weights show as you logged them. Standing Cable Crunch is in the exercise library.
Fixes
You now get the personal best crown for more reps than ever at a weight or heavier, and split sets count each side.
The deload note now names only the exercises you deloaded. The notifications badge stays on one line at 99+.
1.2.32 5d ago
Timers
Start a timer from the new Timer tab: AMRAP, For time, EMOM, Tabata or your own mix. The screen turns green to work and orange to rest, with the sound you pick. The exercise to do now is shown large, with the next one beside it. You get a lock screen countdown, live heart rate from your Apple Watch, and the session saved to your history.
Apple Watch
Timers show on your Apple Watch as they do on your phone: the phase colour, the ring of rounds filling as you go, the countdown, the exercise to do and pause on the wrist. Your Watch taps your wrist as a timer moves to work or rest, counts down the last 3 seconds and buzzes at the end. In the gym it shows your rest counting down and buzzes when rest is up. Exercise lists on the Watch show each exercise's picture.
Rest timer
The rest timer has a crisper tick and a new chime. In Profile you can pick a boxing bell or no sound for when rest is up, and turn the ticks off without losing the finish sound.
More
When you sign up, you can say you heard about Focal from ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Gemini. Weights in lbs show exactly as you log them, so 22.5 lbs stays 22.5.
Fixes
Your Apple Watch no longer gets stuck on Getting ready when you start a session while the last one is still closing on the watch. Feed posts show the View all comments link once instead of twice.
1.2.31 Oct 28
Readiness
Readiness now counts cycle symptoms the day you log them, shows your cycle phase, and gives heart readings more leeway around your period. How pleasant you feel no longer lowers your score.
Food
Photo scans and typed foods find a matching food in the catalogue more often, so more of them come back straight away. Food search now includes Bulk's protein powders in every flavour. Deep Search is now called Look it up.
Help
Help gives short answers that open right in the list, rewritten to match how the app works today.
Fixes
The calorie suggestion in the Food diary shows when your weight trend has drifted from your plan for over a week, and suggests eating less when you are losing slower than planned. A barcode scan that finds no product no longer uses one of your free food scans. Some supermarket foods that showed calories for the wrong amount now show values per 100g. When Focal opens, the loading screen switches to your Light or Dark choice straight away.
1.2.30 Oct 25
Check-in
Checking in is now a few quick steps. Pick what to log today, then go through mood, weight, a progress photo and, if you track it, your cycle, one screen at a time. Saving shows everything you logged on one page.
Weather
The Movement chart on Home shows the weather and temperature under each hour. When rain or heat is due at the time you usually walk most, Home tells you under your step count, and a morning heads-up lets you plan around it. Turn the heads-up off in Profile > Privacy & social.
Live Activity
Your workout on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island shows the next set's weight, reps and RPE with the exercise picture, and a bar that fills in as you finish each set.
Appearance
Set Profile > Appearance to Automatic and Focal follows your phone's light or dark setting.
Workout cards
Exercise lines are calmer, and cards you share to Instagram Stories show your best set for each exercise.
Exercise pictures
Exercise pictures are redrawn as clean muscle charts, with the main muscles in green and the supporting ones in apricot.
More
Every ••• menu opens the same pop-out. Cycle check-in icons are easier to read. The loading screen clears faster. Follow Focal on Instagram and TikTok from Profile > Support.
Fixes
Closing the profile sidebar no longer flashes the screen dark for a moment. The Steps leaderboard podium no longer shows dark squares while it appears.
1.2.29 Oct 24
Lift goals
Set a goal on any exercise and follow it in your workout and on the Trend chart. Each goal shows what is left, such as 10 kg to go. Find them in Profile > Goals > Lift goals.
Plate calculator
Save your own plates and bar, so the calculator only suggests loads you can build. Profile > Workouts > My plates.
Workout cards
Cards in Training and the community feed show the weights and reps under each exercise. Copy a workout as plain text, share it on Stories or delete it from the ••• menu.
Your data
Export your workouts as a CSV file, and all your data as JSON, from Profile > Data.
What's new
See every change as it lands in Profile > Support > What's new.
Settings
Profile settings pages are grouped into clear panels.
Fixes
Strong exports made without notes now import. Answering the quick-start questions no longer switches imperial units back to metric. Logging a recent food no longer removes its photo.
1.2.28 Oct 23
Food in Apple Health
Meals you log can now be saved to Apple Health, with calories and macros. Edit a portion or delete a meal and Apple Health follows. Turn it off in Profile > Movement.
Profile avatars
Pick an illustrated avatar for your profile. Anyone without a photo shows one instead of initials, on leaderboards, the feed, comments and maps.
Steps leaderboard
See each member's flag and local time, and jump straight to your own place with the button at the top. Places past the top 50 show your real rank, the board says how many others are taking part, members whose day has ended show their final total, and past days load on the Everyone board.
Dark mode
Dark mode uses the forest look from sign-up, with a lime accent.
Food search
Plain foods and the foods you log most come first.
Fixes
Fixed a crash when drawing some gradients. Starting an outdoor activity with location off now offers a way to Settings. Sign-up no longer stops on the Apple Health step if your body measurements cannot be read.
1.2.27 Oct 22
Onboarding
Sign-up has a new look, from the welcome screen through to Home. The weight step has a larger kg, lbs and st switch.
Check-in
Check-in is now one page: how you feel, a note, then weight, photo and cycle. Weight is optional, so a feeling, photo or note on its own counts as a check-in.
Workouts
Pausing a workout now shows a clear Paused screen with a Resume button. A switch in the workout bar moves between a timeline of your exercises and one exercise at a time. Photos and videos are added from each exercise.
Workouts are safe with weak or no signal. The app opens from what it already has, Finish and Save never hang, and workouts saved offline upload when you are back online. Exercise cards match the Home cards.
Notifications
Notifications are grouped by topic, read more plainly and have quick actions, such as accepting an invite or finishing a workout.
Apple Watch
Sets done on each side count as done once both sides are logged.
Fixes
When Apple Health is not sharing steps, the Movement card says so and shows how to fix it.
1.2.26 Oct 19
Meal plan
Closing a "From yesterday" suggestion keeps it closed, even after you reopen the app.
Codes
Referral and founding codes can be 4 to 16 letters or numbers. When you enter one during sign-up, the field tells you straight away whether it works, and why not if it does not.
Fixes
The Building screen draws its crystal more smoothly when the app opens.
1.2.25 Oct 18
Apple Health
Home shows your current steps and active calories from Apple Health as soon as it opens, and again each time you come back to the app. The first open of the day shows today's total straight away. Heart rate variability and resting heart rate refresh when you come back too.
Numbers
Steps, scores, weight and training totals count up smoothly as they appear, even while the app is still loading.
Steps leaderboard
Your row updates as soon as Home shows your new total. The Everyone board shows how far you are from the next place, with a Near you section when you are outside the top 50. Steps race alerts tell you when you are overtaken, close to the top 5, or have not synced before the board locks. Turn them off in Privacy.
Nutrition
Food lookups read nutrition labels more accurately and scale them to the portion you log.
Fixes
The Building screen fades in Low Power Mode instead of zooming. Back buttons, pills and spinners use the right colours in light and dark mode. The empty cycle card matches Weight and Mood, and the Recovery table lines up its Trained column.
1.2.24 Oct 15
Expo 57
Focal now runs on Expo 57, so this version needs a store install. It is not an over-the-air update for 1.2.21.
Recipes
Recipe photos use a clearer Sunburst set.
Training
Expected lighter drop sets and rest-pause sets no longer trip the fat-finger warning.
Welcome
The welcome screen stays responsive on launch. Sign up is tappable while the phone mockup cycles.
Chat
AI replies no longer freeze the app while they stream.
1.2.23 Oct 12
Mood Board
Home includes Mood Board, with the feelings you have logged.
Readiness
The readiness headline now follows your score, so a high score no longer tells you to take it easier.
Ask Focal Coach
Asking Focal Coach about a Home signal now asks how to improve it, such as your sleep or your recovery.
Home signals
History, Discuss in chat, and refresh sit in a menu on each signal card. Recovery includes a table of muscles.
Steps
The Movement card includes View leaderboard, which opens the steps leaderboard.
Launch and update screens
The launch screen shows the new Focal mark. The error and update screens have a new look.
Shopping lists
Shopping lists have been removed.
1.2.21 Oct 4
Check in from the greeting
Today's greeting includes Check in. Log how you feel and it changes to Checked in, with a face that matches your score.
Chat
The Home button for Focal Coach now says Chat.
1.2.18 Sep 30
A year of sleep
Open a year of sleep history from the Home sleep card, with stages when your watch or app recorded them. The readiness chart now shows HRV and resting heart rate as well.
Exercise Trend
Each exercise has a Trend tab: a logbook of your sets that marks the ones beating your previous best.
Kettlebells
Kettlebell is now an equipment option, with 29 kettlebell exercises in the catalogue.
A choice about advert measurement
Setup explains how Focal measures its adverts with Meta, then iOS asks whether to allow tracking. Focal works the same whichever you choose, and Meta never sees your training, food or health data.
1.2.17 Sep 26
Sign in with Apple continues to username
After you sign in with Apple, setup no longer asks for the name or email Apple already provided. You pick a username and continue.
A clearer first run
Onboarding still asks only what it needs, then lands you in training or Home. If you connect Apple Health or Health Connect, height, date of birth and sex can fill in when they are already there.
A starter week that matches your kit
Quick start installs a three-day week for a full gym, dumbbells, or bodyweight, and reuses it if you go through setup again.
1.2.16 Sep 15
See which muscles you worked
After a session, Insights shows a front-and-back anatomy figure and a muscle-group radar from the sets you logged.
Recovery on Home
The Recovery card heats the same figure from the last seven days. Lime means that part is ready.
A clearer save recap
Finish a workout and see what you earned, with a short haptic on achievements.
Also in this release
Jump to a date in training history. Repeat a session from the Start sheet with exercise previews. Android explains location use before the system GPS prompt. The profile drawer shows the running app version.
1.2.14 Sep 1
Walks and runs that keep recording
Lock the phone or switch apps and Focal keeps the outdoor trail, clock, and live share going. Gaps in GPS show as breaks instead of a straight line.
A programme that fits your week
Answer a few questions and Focal drafts a training programme around your days, kit, and goals.
Session camera and clips
Take photos or videos during a session, tag them to an exercise, and page through them on the feed. Older posts still show their original photo.
Session highlights
Personal bests, increase load, and above-average lifts show as medals on the workout card.
Check-ins and food diary
Log weight and photos on a date-first form. Daily totals sit in a compact card.
Also in this release
Prize claims open from Notifications. Searching rear delt fly also finds Reverse Pec Deck. First open shows Building then sign-in. City is optional in onboarding.

Also in this build
This talks to the same backend as 1.2.7, 1.2.8, and 1.2.9. If you still have those TestFlight builds, install one after this and check that logging, feed photos, and finishing a workout still work.
1.2.10 Aug 15
Apple Watch Live Sync
Start a gym or Cardio session on your phone and keep heart rate, calories, and session controls on your wrist.
Profile, closer to hand
Open settings from a side drawer on Home instead of leaving the tab. Turn haptics off if you do not want the phone to vibrate.
Calmer sheets and titles
Pickers float above the home indicator with one close control. Hub screens share the same title treatment. Check-ins open on the logbook.
Screens that slide
Tabs wipe across, and stacked screens slide in from the right. Sheets still come up from the bottom.
Also in this release
A notched pill on the tab bar, food diary, and session controls. A fuller Cardio and Outdoor catalogue with timer sessions. Leaderboard and People chrome to match Home. Workout overflow lives in a sheet.
1.2.9 Aug 14
Steadier sessions and sign-in
Keyboard insets recover cleanly after hide and foreground, so session chrome stays put. Google sign-in on Android is more reliable.

Your day at a glance
Today on Home is now a set of cards you can swipe through. Movement, weight and readiness each get their own chart, so you can check one without reading past the others. Tap History on the Movement card for your full step history, hour by hour.
Faster to open, faster to log
A lot of this release went into speed. The app opens quicker, Home draws its charts straight away instead of flashing blank, and starting a workout no longer stalls.
Better set logging
Pick warm-up, drop or failure straight from the keypad as you log. Drag to reorder exercises without leaving the session. Rest timers fill in from your presets when you add or swap an exercise.
Share a session
Send a finished workout to your story from the saved session.
Focal Coach
Ask about your training and food, with suggestions to get you started. Focal Coach is part of Pro.
Also in this release
Assistance tracking for assisted pull-ups and dips.
Repeat a session now leaves out activities imported from Health.
If you track your cycle, it appears alongside your other daily signals.
