Source Cut, Export your original clips with original names from your Final Cut timeline
Every clip in your Final Cut Pro timeline, exported as its own file — still wearing its original camera filename. One click, no re-encoding, no renaming by hand, no cloud account.
If you've ever delivered selects to a client, sent a cut to a colourist, or archived the keepers from a shoot, you know the pain: batch exports from Final Cut Pro lose your camera filenames, so you end up exporting clips one at a time and renaming them by hand. Source Cut gives you back your afternoon.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Click Share in Final Cut Pro and choose Source Cut.
2. Pick a folder — renaming, handles and timecode options are right there on the dialog.
3. Done. Every timeline clip lands as a separate movie named after its original source file. DJI_0042.MOV stays DJI_0042.MOV.
MADE FOR REAL WORKFLOWS
• Client selects that keep the filenames the client expects
• Dailies and stringouts that trace straight back to camera originals
• Handovers to colourists and VFX houses who need source names and timecode
• Boiling a mountain of footage down to the keepers — without exporting one clip at a time
FRAME-ACCURATE, NO RE-ENCODE
Clips are cut from your master export by passthrough — zero quality loss, no transcoding time. With a ProRes master, cuts are frame-exact.
RENAME ON EXPORT
Add a prefix or suffix, number clips in timeline order, or replace names entirely — with a live preview as you type. Or leave it off and keep the original names untouched.
SOURCE TIMECODE
Every clip is stamped with its original camera timecode, so it relinks and conforms cleanly in DaVinci Resolve and other colour and finishing tools.
HANDLES
Keep extra frames on the head and tail of every clip — like Final Cut Pro 7's Media Manager — so there's room downstream to re-trim or add transitions.
NO TIMELINE SURPRISES
• Original camera filenames from the FCPXML — special characters included
• A clip used twice exports twice (_2 suffix)
• 1-hour start timecodes, gaps and transitions handled
• Multicam, synced and compound clips export under their clip names
WORKS STANDALONE TOO
Drop any master export plus its FCPXML onto the app window and cut clips without touching the share menu.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Everything happens on your Mac. No account, no upload, no analytics, nothing to subscribe to.
One purchase. Yours forever.
Requires Final Cut Pro 10.4.4 or later.

Naming window polish: the live filename preview now sits directly beside the naming fields, so you can see the effect of your prefix, suffix and numbering as you type — and the window is larger, with every option visible without scrolling.
Fixed: source timecode stamping now writes the correct camera-original timecode for media whose timecode doesn't start at zero. Clips conform correctly in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere.
