Wave Speak turns your voice into text, entirely on your Mac. Use it as system-wide dictation for any text field, or transcribe audio and video files into clean, readable text. Nothing you say leaves your device. DICTATE ANYWHERE Press a shortcut and speak. The moment you stop, your words are on the clipboard, one ⌘V from an email, a message, a note, a document, or an AI chatbot, anywhere you'd normally type. The whole loop takes about as long as the thought. And if you switch languages mid-sentence, Wave Speak keeps up. The language is detected automatically, so there's no mode to set. TRANSCRIBE RECORDINGS Drop in a recording and get clean text back: plain text to read, or SRT and VTT subtitles with sentence-level or word-level timestamps. Wave Speak supports 23 audio and video formats, so a lecture, meeting, voice memo, interview, or podcast turns into text that's ready to paste into an AI chatbot for a summary. THREE ON-DEVICE MODELS Wave Speak is powered by three of the latest open-source speech models, each from a different maker. All three are built into the app and run entirely on your Mac, so you can switch between them anytime. • Whisper: the versatile default. Handles around 100 languages and tidies up filler words. • NVIDIA's Parakeet: near-instant transcription for English and 24 more European languages. • Alibaba's Qwen3: the most accurate when speech gets messy: noisy surroundings, multiple languages, or strong accents. Especially strong on mixed English and Chinese speech, and on Chinese's many dialects. Transcribes word for word. Pick the one that fits you the best. ADDITIONAL FEATURES • Hot Words: add the names, brands, and jargon you use, so they come out spelled right. • Custom hotkey: choose any key combination, hold to talk or tap to toggle. • History: a searchable record of your recent transcripts, ready to find and reuse. • Minimalist by design: lives in the menu bar, no Dock icon, and stays out of your way. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No servers. No tracking. All three models are built in, so Wave Speak works fully offline from the very first launch. On a plane, off the grid, or with no signal at all, it works exactly the same. It goes online for just one thing: Apple's own App Store service confirming your purchase or free trial. Your voice, your transcripts, and your files never leave your Mac. Privacy isn't a setting you switch on here. It's the only way the app works. REQUIREMENTS Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer), macOS 14 or later. I built Wave Speak for myself first. The best voice input I had used came from an AI chat app, and it convinced me this is how you should be able to put text into anything, in whatever language it comes out. But I got tired of dictating in one app and copying the result into the one I actually needed, and I did not want a meter running every time I used it. So I made the version I wanted: that same quality of dictation, landing right where you are already typing, running entirely on your own Mac, no bouncing between apps, no handing your voice to anyone, no paying by the minute.
