Sorrel is a Mac read-aloud app for copied text. Paste something into Sorrel, clean up the parts you do not want to hear, and play it with a macOS voice. Use it when you want to listen to: - Long emails, articles, notes, and study material - AI chat answers with markdown, citations, and code blocks - Text copied from apps where built-in Speak Selection is awkward - Drafts you want to hear before sending Sorrel focuses on a simple local-first reading workflow: - Paste or replace text from the clipboard - Strip URLs, markdown, tables, code fences, citations, ANSI escapes, and custom patterns - Listen with Apple and macOS System Voice options - Follow sentence and word highlighting during playback - Pause, resume, stop, skip, seek, and adjust speed - Trigger reading from Shortcuts, Services, or the optional Option-Command-V hotkey - Keep recent reading history on this Mac, with controls to clear it The default voice path uses voices on your Mac. Optional cloud voice providers are available only if you add your own provider API key and choose that provider in Settings. Sorrel has a 14-day trial. After the trial, unlock the Mac App Store version with the one-time in-app purchase.

Ratings & Reviews

  • This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.

This update changes how the App Store edition works, alongside reliability fixes: • Free 14-day trial through the App Store: choose Start 14-Day Free Trial — it never renews and never charges. If your trial was in progress on 1.0.4, start the new trial to continue listening. • Fully on-device: this edition now includes only Mac System Voice and Apple voices. A previously saved cloud voice falls back to a local voice, and Sorrel no longer uses stored API keys. • Accurate speed: playback above 1× was faster than labeled. Speeds are accurate now, so re-adjust your speed slider if playback sounds slow. • Clearer Play and Paste & Play controls, more reliable System Voice playback, updated privacy controls, and a warmer Sorrel accent. • Usable listening history: View > History now displays every saved reading instead of opening as an empty-looking sheet.
