MicDrop turns the world into a map of hidden audio. Stories, memories, tips and oddities are pinned to real places — and they only unlock when you're actually standing there.
DISCOVER
Open the map and see what's hiding nearby. Walk within range of a pin — right at the spot, along the street, or anywhere in the area, depending on how far the drop's voice carries — and it unlocks. If you're somewhere quiet, MicDrop writes the first stories itself: real local history about the places around you, when source material and the service are available.
LISTEN
Every place has a voice. A bench with a view, a pub that's poured drinks since 1880, a blue plaque you've walked past a hundred times. MicDrop's cast of narrators — Macca, Nan Edie, Professor Hartley, Wren, Old Tom, Pip and Niko — bring real local knowledge to life, adapted from Wikipedia and Open Plaques with sources and attribution shown on every story.
DROP
Record up to a minute of audio and pin it where you stand: a story, a tip, a memory, a song. Choose how far it carries — this exact spot, the street, or the whole area. Use your name or drop anonymously. Whoever walks there next will hear you.
COLLECT
Everything you've heard, saved and made lives in your collection, and replaying a heard drop works anywhere. Earn listening badges as you go — from your first drop heard to listening in 25 different places — and plan a Journey to find stories along your route.
• Start in seconds as a guest, or sign in with Apple, Google or email to keep your collection across devices
• Optional gentle notifications when you walk near something worth hearing
• Community-powered quality: vote on what's worth hearing, report what isn't, block anyone you'd rather not hear from
• Narrated stories are clearly labelled, with View Source and licence links (Wikipedia text is CC BY-SA 4.0)
• Request permanent deletion of your account and associated data from inside the app
MicDrop needs your location to show and unlock nearby drops, and the microphone only while you record. Audio you publish is public to other people at that place — that's the whole point.
