Smith Designer is a powerful and interactive Smith Chart tool for RF and Microwave professionals, students, and hobbyists. Design, analyze, and optimize impedance matching networks directly on your mobile device. A Smith Designer Lite version is available. Whether you are designing an antenna match, an amplifier interstage, or a filter, Smith Designer provides an intuitive interface to visualize impedance transformations in real-time. Key Features: • Interactive Smith Chart: Visualize impedance trajectories as you add components. Toggle between Impedance (Z) and Admittance (Y) grids. • Schematic Editor: Build matching networks using a drag-and-drop interface. Supports Series/Shunt Inductors, Capacitors, Resistors, series and parallel RLC, Transmission Lines (Series and shunt, Open/Short Stubs), Transformers, fixed jX and jB, and S2P blocks. • Real-Time Tuning: Adjust component values using sliders or by dragging points directly on the Smith Chart to see immediate effects. • Auto Match: Automatically synthesize L-network matching circuits to match a source to a load. • Simultaneous Conjugate Matching for unconditionally stable devices, and provisions to help stabilize conditionally stable networks. • Optimization: Built-in gradient descent optimizer to fine-tune component values for the best match. • Frequency Sweeps: Analyze your design over bandwidth. Plot S-Parameters (S11, S21, S12, S22), Gain (Ga, Gp, Gt), Noise Figure, Return Loss, and Group Delay. • Monte Carlo Analysis: Simulate manufacturing tolerances. Define component variations (Uniform, Gaussian, Triangular) and visualize the spread on the Smith Chart to ensure design robustness. • S2P/Touchstone Support including noise data: Import .s2p files for S-parameter blocks and .s1p files for frequency-dependent source/load impedances. • Vendor Libraries: Easily import and use component libraries (supports Murata LPB format, see https://www.murata.com/tool/data/librarydata). • Comprehensive Overlays: Visualize VSWR circles, Constant Q arcs, Stability circles, and Noise circles (requires noise parameters). • Load Pull Contours: Import multi-frequency Load Pull and MDIF files. Frequency interpolation (nearest, linear, cubic spline). Filled contours with 5 color maps. Reference/contour plane transforms through the matching network. • Data Explorer to assess SnP data files, load-pull data files, antenna patterns and more. Advanced Tools: • Trace Designer: Full 2D Boundary Element Method solver for PCB transmission lines — Microstrip, GCPWG, Stripline, Differential, Coated, and Embedded variants. Multilayer substrates, trapezoidal traces, conductor roughness models, impedance synthesis, and experimental E-field visualization. • Analytical Line Models: Closed-form Z₀, loss, and synthesis for Coaxial, Parallel Lines, Twisted Pair, Microstrip, Stripline, Grounded CPW, Rectangular Waveguide, and Circular Waveguide. • Transmission Line Models: Constant Phase, Electrical Length, and Physical models with loss and velocity factor. • Resonator & Attenuator Designers: Built-in calculators for common circuit blocks. Export & Share: • Export professional PDF reports with schematics, charts, and plots. • Export designs as SPICE netlists for further simulation. • Save high-resolution PNG/SVG images. • Share project files to collaborate with others. Perfect for RF engineering coursework, ham radio antenna tuning, and professional circuit design. Unlock the power of the Smith Chart in your pocket! VENDOR COMPONENT LIBRARY • Libraries stored as ZIP archives keep working after an app update. Their locations are now recorded in a form that is re-resolved each time they are used, so an update that relocates the app's own storage no longer leaves the library list pointing at files that are not there any more. • Broken library entries repair themselves. If a recorded archive path is no longer valid, the app locates the archive in its own library folder and updates the saved entry; references left over from older versions are converted automatically. • Archives chosen from the file picker are copied into the app's own storage where a picked path would not survive a restart, so the library stays usable. Where the path is stable the archive is used in place and not duplicated. • Upgrading no longer forces a full re-scan. Existing library indexes are converted to the new format without re-reading the S-parameter files, so a twelve-thousand-part library is ready immediately. • Indexes are written atomically, so an interrupted write can no longer leave a damaged cache that forces a rebuild. A cache that is damaged or of the wrong version is quietly rebuilt rather than reported as an error. • Shortly after the Smith Chart opens, library entries are checked and stale indexes refreshed in the background, so the library dialog and auto-match open without a pause. You are notified only when a source is genuinely gone. • Clearer messages when a library is unavailable: a one-line prompt naming the missing library and pointing at the library settings, instead of an empty component list. The library dialog says so directly when the source of a library you pick has vanished. • The recent-libraries list now records only libraries that actually loaded, entries pointing at the same archive are merged, and the list is healed and pruned each time the dialog opens. • The library configuration dialog validates each entry in the background, flags an inaccessible source with a warning icon, and offers a per-row re-index or re-pick. MONTE CARLO DISTRIBUTION VIEWER Panning and zooming the vertical axis is now clamped to the meaningful 0–100% band, so zooming out or dragging can no longer scroll the view into negative probabilities or fractions above 100%. IMPEDANCE PROFILES AND FILE IMPORT ON IPHONE AND IPAD • Importing an impedance profile works again. Import S1P and Import CSV in the impedance profile editor were offering their file types to the picker in a way iOS does not apply, so Touchstone files appeared greyed out and could not be chosen at all. The picker now accepts any file on iOS and checks the contents once you have chosen; desktop keeps its exact per-type filter. • An import that yields no usable points now says so and names the file, instead of leaving the table unchanged with no explanation. • The impedance profile editor has a tidier footer: the screenshot buttons are gone and Cancel and Save are now icons. • The remaining file pickers — element S-parameter data, vendor library archives and saved designs — were checked against the same platform rules and now share one implementation, so a change to one cannot quietly break another. BUG FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS Numerous stability, rendering, and accuracy improvements across the Smith Chart, Trace Designer, and Data Explorer.
