Coast is a macOS menu bar app for tracking your path to financial independence. It shows your FIRE progress, runway, and projected freedom date right from the menu bar, so you always know where you stand without opening a full app.
Set your annual spending, invested assets, and monthly savings once. Coast calculates your FIRE number and tracks your progress toward four milestones: Lean FIRE, Full FIRE, Fat FIRE, and Coast FIRE. A color-coded progress bar shifts from orange to green as you close in on financial independence.
Click the menu bar icon to open the panel and see your runway in months, time to financial independence, projected FI date, and a cash flow breakdown with income, expenses, surplus, and savings rate. Everything updates the moment you change your inputs.
Coast comes in two modes. Simple mode is a clean three-field view covering spending, invested assets, and savings rate. Advanced mode adds income breakdowns, expense categories, scenario planning, and what-if projections so you can model income changes or market shifts. You can switch between them anytime.
Your data never leaves your machine. There are no accounts to create, no subscriptions, no analytics, and no servers. Everything is stored locally on your Mac. You can export your data as JSON for your own backups and import it back whenever you need.
Privacy controls let you hide all numbers behind authentication, set an idle timer to auto-mask values when you step away, and enable stealth mode for open offices or shared screens.
Coast supports launch at login, so your progress is always one click away from the moment your Mac starts.
