Fish Wizard
Fishing Log & Catch Tracker
Free · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Make every day on the water part of your fishing story.
Fish Wizard is a private, local-first fishing log for recording trips, catches, photos, and the details you want to remember. There is no account to create. Your log stays on your device by default, with optional iCloud sync available through your private iCloud account.
LOG YOUR TRIPS
Record the body of water, date and time, fishing style, target species, duration, notes, and catches from each outing.
TRACK EVERY CATCH
Save species and subspecies, length, weight, catch time, notes, photos, and the trip where it happened. Search and filter your log whenever you want to revisit a day on the water.
LOG LOCATIONS AND CONDITIONS
Pin a catch on the map and Fish Wizard fills in the conditions for that spot and time — air temperature, weather, water temperature when available, humidity, barometric pressure, and moon phase — so you can spot the patterns behind your best days. See conditions for each trip too. Location is optional, off by default, and controlled by a single opt-in you can turn off anytime.
REVIEW PHOTOS WITH SMART IMPORT
Fish Wizard can scan photos on your device to suggest likely fish pictures and group them by capture time. Every suggestion is review-first: nothing becomes a catch or trip until you confirm it.
SEE YOUR FISHING STORY IN NUMBERS
Explore trip and catch totals, averages, personal bests, species breakdowns, vessel stats, and more.
KEEP BUILDING MOMENTUM
Earn XP and unlock achievements as you log trips, catches, measurements, notes, and photos.
SYNC ON YOUR TERMS
Keep your log on-device by default, or turn on optional iCloud sync in Settings to keep your fishing history up to date across your devices through your private iCloud account.
SHARE THE HIGHLIGHTS
Create polished images for catches, trips, stats, and achievement progress, then share them through the standard iOS share sheet.
BACK UP ON YOUR TERMS
Export your log as a JSON backup and import it later. You can also delete your saved user data from Settings, with clear warnings when iCloud Sync is enabled.
Fish Wizard includes no ads, analytics SDKs, account login, or third-party tracking.
more This app makes it super easy to keep track of fishing trips and catches. I love being able to record exactly how I caught each fish, the details, and conditions. The app is clean, fast, and doesn’t feel cluttered like many other fishing apps. Definitely worth five stars.

- Trip Details now walks through your day as a timeline, from start to each catch to finish — tap any catch to jump straight to it

- Catch Map now points you to boat ramps, marinas, and bait & tackle shops nearby, with campgrounds, parks, and fishing piers a tap away in Filters — open any of them in Maps for directions
- Focus your stats on the last 30 or 90 days, the last year, or any calendar year, and every highlight, chart, average, and personal best follows along

1.2.41 Jul 31
- Sync problems are easier to get help with — the report you can copy from Settings now explains what actually went wrong, without the noise
- Added crash and error reporting so problems get found and fixed faster — reports never include your catches, photos, notes, or location
1.2.40 Jul 26
- Fixed a problem that could stop your log and photos from syncing to iCloud

- Clearer iCloud sync status in Settings, including when your last upload was confirmed
- Duplicate achievements now tidy themselves up automatically
- Fixed a rare crash when importing a backup
1.2.39 Jul 24
- Fixed a crash when importing several photos at once — Smart Import now handles large, high-resolution photos without running out of memory
- Scanning a big photo library is faster and steadier, and long scans now stop at a sensible point and tell you to try a narrower date range instead of quietly stalling
- Rescanning a date range now skips photos you've already logged and moves forward through your library, so "scan again" keeps finding new catches
- Water body suggestions fill in far more reliably on large scans
- Fixed the last review group failing to save when you confirmed it
- iCloud sync in Settings now shows when your last upload finished, clearer status wording, and readable details when something goes wrong
1.2.38 Jul 21
- See your catches on satellite maps — a new layers button lets you switch between standard and satellite views right from the map, catch and trip details, and Settings
- The Home screen now uses the full width in landscape, with a tidy two-column layout instead of wide empty gutters
- Filters and stats now recognize every species correctly, including your own custom ones — filter precisely (like "Spanish Mackerel") or by family (like "Mackerel")
- Fixed level progress and counts for catches saved without a specific species
1.2.37 Jul 19
- Log a lot more fish — the species list now covers dozens of new freshwater and saltwater catches, from added bass, trout, sunfish, and panfish to snapper, grouper, flounder, cod, tilefish, and a full lineup of sharks
- Coastal anglers can now log Spot, with the croakers grouped alongside redfish and black drum so they're easy to find
- Turn your phone sideways on the Home screen for a roomier two-column layout that makes better use of the width
1.2.36 Jul 19
- 18 new achievements to chase — unique waters, trophy catches, all four seasons, multi-year runs, and 250- and 500-catch milestones — plus a deeper leveling system where the top angler ranks now reward real fishing variety, not just points
- Add a photo to a catch and Fish Wizard fills in where you caught it from the photo's location, even while you're logging the whole trip
- Filter your catches by year and species — on your catch list and on the Catch Map with its new filters
- Search for a lake, river, or boat ramp by part of its name and land on the right spot instead of coming up empty
- See right in Settings why an iCloud sync didn't go through, and tap Sync Now to try again
- Fixed a new trip sometimes losing its map location while you typed in the water body name
1.2.35 Jul 18
- Search the map by name when setting a catch or trip location — type in a lake, river, or place and the map jumps right to it, instead of dragging around to find the spot
- Remove a catch while editing a trip and it now only sticks if you Save — tap Cancel and the catch comes back
- Cleaned up the shadow edges on the Home screen tiles
- Corrected a tackle brand name to "Yamamoto Baits" and tidied up a trip filter label
1.2.34 Jul 16
- Log the tackle behind every catch — lure, bait, rig, color, hook size, and bait style — with quick dropdowns of common brands and sizes
- Save your favorite lure-and-bait combos as Go-To Setups and reuse them in a tap, managed from Settings
- Search the location maps by name to jump straight to a lake, river, or place instead of dragging the map around
- Type your own colors, brands, or rigs once and the app offers to remember them for next time
- Conditions now show whether each reading was Measured, Estimated, or set Manually — on trips as well as catches
- Fixed a freeze that could happen when editing a trip's location and opening the species picker
- Your favorite species are now included in backups
1.2.33 Jul 14
- Catch Map: a new map shows all your catches with a location on one screen, automatically framed to fit your spots. Tap any pin for a quick look at the fish and its stats, then jump straight to the full catch.
- Highlights: your Statistics page now opens with a lifetime snapshot — total catches, trips, species, waters, and your longest and heaviest fish.
- Catches by Time of Day: see how your catches spread across the day.
- Personal Bests now show your average size right next to your best for each species.
- Auto-fill conditions on catches: tap once to pull in nearby weather and water conditions, the same way Trips already works.
- Smarter Smart Import: better fish detection with fewer false positives, tap to enlarge a photo, protection against importing duplicates, and a helpful search tip.
- Assorted fixes and polish.
1.2.32 Jul 13
- Trip conditions now fill only when you tap the new "Auto-fill conditions" button, and the app shows you exactly which fields it filled.
- Smart Import no longer overwrites good conditions data with a weaker reading.
- Catches logged during a Fishing Now session are now stamped with their own GPS location.
- Live weather and water conditions are captured at Fishing Now tally time.
- Backups now include your conditions readings, how each was sourced, and your catch-photo framing.
- Restore accepts more file types, and Fish Wizard backups are now a recognized file type in the Files app and share sheet.
1.2.31 Jul 12
Reworked onboarding that ends on a "pick your start" launch pad — you're one tap from logging your first trip.
• New location & conditions step lets you opt in to saved spots and auto-filled weather and water. Still off by default, always your call.
• Practice mode for Fishing Now — take the live tally button for a spin without saving anything.
• Coming back after a while? A quick "worth a look" screen highlights features you may have missed.
• Pick which catch photo headlines a trip on its detail screen.
• Send feedback straight from Settings.
Thanks for fishing with us — tight lines!
1.2.3 Jul 9
Catch conditions and locations are here.
• Log a catch on a map and let Fish Wizard auto-fill the conditions for
that spot and time — air temperature, weather, water temperature when
available, humidity, barometric pressure, and moon phase.
• See the conditions for each trip at a glance.
• Location is fully optional and off until you turn it on, with a single,
clear opt-in. Your log stays private and on-device by default.
Plus improvements throughout:
• More accurate historical weather and water conditions for past catches.
• Same-day readings are protected, so editing a catch later never
overwrites the real conditions from the day you caught it.
• Bigger, clearer catch and trip photo thumbnails in your lists.
1.2.2 Jul 9
Fish Wizard now has an Apple Watch app!
Keep your phone in your pocket and log your catches right from your wrist:
• Start a Fishing Now session with a single tap
• Tap to log each catch as you reel them in — your live count updates instantly
• Session timer shows how long you've been out, synced with your iPhone in real time
• Undo or finish any time, each with a quick confirmation so you never lose a catch by accident
• Out of range? No problem — taps are saved on your Watch and sync back automatically when your phone's nearby
Tight lines!
1.2.0 Jul 5
• Fishing Now timer — live sessions now show a running clock, and finishing a session automatically logs how long you were out. Forget to hit finish? We'll close it at your last catch so your trip length stays accurate, and an optional "Still fishing?" reminder helps you wrap up.
• Frame your catch photos — tap a photo to set exactly how it's cropped in thumbnails. Your framing carries everywhere the photo shows up, including share images.
• Better trip photos — trip rows now show a catch photo, and you can pick which catch represents the trip.
• Upgraded trip sharing — new Light and Dark templates, toggles to choose what shows, and the option to include your catch photos in a clean gallery.
• Smarter species stats — the catch breakdown now groups by species family (so Largemouth and Spotted count as Bass). Tap any family to see the exact species.
• Easier start times — start date and time is now front-and-center when logging a trip.
Plus assorted fixes and polish. Tight lines!
