3.3 5d ago
Assign race numbers to your entries straight from the Attendees screen. Numbers run in the order of your ticket types, one sequence per group, so all Ultra entries come first, then the next distance, then the next. Early bird tickets share their group's sequence. Add-ons such as camping and parking are never numbered.
3.2 Sep 15
Event description added.
3.1 Sep 10
Small fixes for organisers and challenge racers.
Organisers: at check-in, the attendee card now scrolls through every registration answer on a phone and has a close button, so long entries are never cut off.
Challenges: inviting mates opens and scrolls smoothly, even with a long mates list.
Share event now copies just the link, ready to paste anywhere.
3.0 Sep 8
Miles or kilometres
Choose your units in Profile and everything follows: run history, live navigation, voice cues (mile splits at the mile), split tables, pace plans, share cards and the 3D flyover.
Smarter route generation
Generated loops now favour the fewest turns for your distance and climb, so you spend less time checking the map and more time running.
2.9 Sep 7
Virtual challenges are here. Pick a real journey, the length of Nepal, Land's End to John o'Groats, the Bob Graham Round, Everest and more, and every run you record moves you along it on a beautiful map.
• Race your mates: see everyone on the board, watch the race chart, and give a mate a nudge when they fall behind
• Invite mates to a challenge, and get a push when someone passes you
• Share your challenge progress as a story card made for Instagram
• Apple Watch and Apple Health: connect once in My runs and runs recorded with your watch appear in TrailMate automatically
• Clubs can publish their own challenges for their followers
• Find it all under the new Challenges chip in Discover
Plus bigger challenge maps with fullscreen and 3D terrain, and plenty of polish.
2.8 Aug 31
Minor bug fixes.
2.7 Aug 26
A new bottom bar
Record now has its own button in the middle of the bar, so starting a run is one tap from any main screen. Your profile has moved to your photo in the top left of Home, Discover, Routes and My Events. That is where you will find your tickets, offline maps, blocked users, support and sign out.
Honest elevation
Once your run syncs, your recorded climb is checked against a terrain model, so a drifting barometer no longer invents hills on flat ground and real climbs are left as they are. The correction reaches the profile chart, your kilometre splits and the 3D flyover of your route, not just the total.
Routes and navigation
Turn snapping off while you draw and the line goes exactly where you tap, so you can trace paths the map does not know about. Out on the trail, navigation paints the next stretch of your route in green, which shows you the way where a route crosses itself.
Sharper share cards
The card you post after joining an event now carries the event cover, the organisation's logo where there is one, and the full date range of a multi-day race.
2.6 Aug 25
A proper welcome: the first time you open TrailMate it now greets you with sign up or sign in, so getting started is one tap. You can still explore everything first and join when you are ready.
Plus small fixes.
2.5 Aug 25
OFFLINE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS
Your saved routes now live on your phone, so Routes opens your library with no signal at all. Offline maps are honest too: a download finishes or tells you why it failed, Stop really cancels, and each map follows the basemap you actually run with. Tap any offline map to open the route it was saved for.
SEE THE GROUND BEFORE YOU RUN IT
A new steepness view colours any route by gradient, green where it is flat through to red for the steep climbs, with a key to read it.
3D FLYOVER, ONE TAP FROM SHARING
Fly any route over real terrain and save it as a video. The share sheet now opens the flyover for the run you are sharing, beside the map card and the stickers.
YOUR RUNS IN COLOUR
Colour your run trace by pace on the run detail map, so you can see where you pushed and where you faded.
DRAWING AND DISCOVERY
Drawing a route names the paths as you tap along them. The event map clusters, so a busy area reads as counts instead of a pile of pins.
SMALLER, FASTER, TIDIER
Photos upload resized, so posting a cover or an avatar is quicker and uses far less data. The Mates screen leads with people you might add. The live pace figure waits until it has a real reading instead of showing a dash.
2.4 Aug 19
FLY YOUR ROUTE IN 3D
See any route or finished run as a cinematic flyover over real terrain, then save it as a video to share. Put your own photo behind the route for a story ready clip, choose the line colour, and watch distance, time and climb count up as you fly.
PACE HEAT
Colour a run by how fast you actually moved, kilometre by kilometre. Green where you flew, red where you struggled, with a key showing your fastest and slowest pace. On the run map and in the flyover.
A NEW MAP, EVERYWHERE
Every map in the app is faster and sharper. Real 3D elevation on the Terrain style, a layer picker for Map, Terrain and Satellite, and a personal heatmap of everywhere you have run. Event pins now group together, so a busy map stays readable.
SEE THE HILLS BEFORE YOU RUN THEM
Route previews can colour the line by steepness, from blue descents through to red for the steep climbs, so you know what you are signing up for.
MORE HONEST NUMBERS
Better handling of GPS dropouts, corrected altitude on some phones, and sharper elevation gain on rolling terrain. Traces now break where your signal did, instead of drawing a straight line across ground you never ran.
2.3 Aug 13
FLY YOUR RUN IN 3D
Open any run or route as a 3D flyover over real terrain. The line traces itself as the camera follows your run, with distance, time and climb counting up beside it. Switch between topographic and satellite, choose your trace colour, speed the flight up to 4x, then save the whole thing as a video and share it.
YOUR PACE, FRONT AND CENTRE
Navigate and Record now go full screen while you run, with your current pace on a card above the pause button. It is coloured against the target for the kilometre you are in, so a glance tells you if you are on plan. The stats tile now says Avg pace, because that is what it always was.
RUNNER PROFILES, REBUILT
Another runner's profile now opens with their photo and name in the header, their all-time totals and weekly chart, the events they are running next, and the organisers they follow. Mates and Message sit beside their name, and every button tells you what a tap will do.
TRUER CLIMB AND DISTANCE
Rolling terrain no longer under-reports your climb on iPhone. Runs with GPS dropouts draw as separate segments instead of a confident straight line across ground you never ran, and that applies to every run already in your history.
SHOP AND ORGANISER PAGES
Merch checkout opens the delivery form in a sheet, so Pay is never blocked by a form you cannot see. Organiser pages show uncropped logos, long descriptions fold behind Read more, and the directory lists organisers by how many runners follow them.
ALSO
A stray tap on the map can no longer move your start point once generated routes are on screen.
2.2 Aug 13
PACE PLAN
Set a finish time or a target pace and TrailMate builds a plan for the route in front of you, kilometre by kilometre. Choose how hard to take the hills, slide between starting faster and finishing faster, and read every split before you set off. While you run, the voice gives you the target for the kilometre you are about to start, not the one you just finished.
SPLITS ON EVERY RUN
Finished runs now show a full split table: your pace for each kilometre, the climb inside it, and, if you set a plan, how each split compared with its target.
OFFLINE MAPS
Download the map for a route before you go, so Navigate keeps its basemap when your signal gives out. Profile has a list of what is stored, with sizes, so you can clear packs you no longer need.
BETTER GENERATED ROUTES
Generated loops now stay out of private yards and off busy roads and staircases, and a climb target genuinely shapes the route instead of only sorting the results.
RUN RECORDING ACCURACY
Fixed a fault that could lose distance and an entire run's climb when the screen was locked. Recorded runs now measure what you actually ran.
FOR ORGANISERS
Proper product cards in the shop, with photos that are no longer cropped and arrows to reorder your items.
Your whole team can run the shop and post news, not only the owner.
Pick one of your saved routes as an event's course.
Tickets show who they admit, and check in keeps working offline, then syncs itself when signal returns.
ALSO
A new Neon sticker for sharing your runs.
Clearer hill rep guidance about which climb you are on and where to turn around.
A rebuilt tour for new runners.
Fixes to pull to refresh, signing in, and the run detail screen.
2.1 Aug 7
TrailMate 2.0 is a cleaner design across the whole app.
NEW
• My runs shows your lifetime totals and a 10 week progress chart, so you can see whether you are running more than you were
• Drawn routes now measure how much of the line is real trail, just like generated ones
• Organisers can reuse any saved route as an event course, move its start, reverse it or add laps right on the course page, and draw a new course from scratch
• Event pages now show the organiser's logo and name on the cover. Tap it to visit their page
• Offering a ride got a friendlier form, and times like "3pm" now mean 3pm
• A rebuilt survey builder with question reordering, clearer validation and results that are easier to read
IMPROVED
• A refreshed look everywhere: section headers, back buttons, dialogs and forms
• The event feed groups new joins into fewer, tidier cards
• My runs has a cleaner social bar. Tap the like count to see who gave you kudos
• Chat: the attach menu no longer hides behind the keyboard
2.0 Aug 6
More trails, and an honest number for how much.
Better route generation. Turn on More trails and you now get them. A 5 km loop that used to come back 19% trail comes back 64% from the same start point.
Accurate trail percentages. Country footpaths were being counted as pavement, so rural routes were under-reporting by as much as 18 points. Fixed, and every route you have already saved has been remeasured.
Saved routes show their trail percentage. Previously they showed descent, which on a loop is just your climb again.
Hill reps know where you turn. Every turnaround is pinned from the moment the route loads, and each pin tells you which climbs it serves, so you always know whether this rep turns here or further down.
Clearer drawing. When you tap to add a point, the pin now sits where the route actually snapped, so you can see straight away if it landed on a path instead of the road you meant.
Fewer routing hiccups. Momentary failures now retry themselves, and the ones that do surface explain what to do about it.
1.9.0 Jul 29
The biggest routes update yet:
• Freehand draw: scribble roughly where you want to run and TrailMate snaps it to real trails and footpaths. Fine tune it point by point afterwards.
• Faster, more reliable route generation on our new routing engine, with a "Fewer turns" option when you want a calm, flowing loop.
• Route screens now use an outdoor terrain map with contours, so your route sits exactly on the path it follows.
• Voice guidance got sharper: clearer turn by turn cues, back to back turns announced together, "continue straight" reassurance on long stretches, a spoken start direction and a finish countdown.
Organisers and events:
• Organiser pages: follow your favourite race organisers to hear about new events, merch and announcements first. Browse them from Discover.
• Organiser shops: buy merch any time, not just at events, and see all your tickets and orders in one place.
• Bought a ticket? Share an "I'm going" card straight to your story.
• A new Registration screen for organisers: live check in progress, ticket scanning, attendee lists and t shirt size counts for race morning.
• Volunteer crews get their own chat, a My Shifts view, day of check in and shift reminders.
Plus stability fixes throughout, including a crash when opening Merch.
1.8.0 Jul 28
Voice guided runs, dialled in.
Follow any route with clear spoken directions. Back to back turns, staggered junctions and quick doglegs are all announced properly now. The app tells you which way to set off, warns you as the finish nears, and reassures you to keep going on long straight stretches. Directions cut in over your stats, so a pace update never talks you through a turn, and off route help now tells you which way the route is, not just that you have drifted off it.
More in this release:
• Draw your own route tap by tap, then navigate it.
• Share a route with friends by link, or send one straight to a mate.
• A new run detail screen: rename, save to your routes, or share it.
• Your runs now appear as a feed with kudos and comments from your mates.
• The map zooms to your location when you record a run.
• Faster start up, works offline, plus stability and elevation accuracy fixes.
Happy trails.
1.6.0 Jul 20
VOICE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hear your run without looking at the screen: km splits, pace, off route alerts and climb warnings, spoken aloud. Works with the screen locked, plays even on silent, and your music dips politely while TrailMate talks.
TURN BY TURN DIRECTIONS
"In 100 metres, turn right." Navigation now speaks every junction, calls sharp turns and switchback sections, and tells you how far the next straight runs.
PACE PLANS
Set a target finish time for any route. Every kilometre gets its own target pace based on the terrain, easier on the climbs and faster on the flats, and the app tells you exactly how far ahead or behind you are.
RUN TARGETS
Recording a free run? Set a distance and an optional time. You'll hear halfway, target reached, and your pace against the goal every kilometre.
SMARTER NAVIGATION
The map rotates to face your direction the moment you turn. A new arrow shows where you're heading and turns red if you set off the wrong way round a loop, with a spoken warning. Loops mark the first stretch in green so you always know which way to start. Join a route halfway and your stats start from zero with the distance to go shown correctly. And runs no longer end themselves at the finish line: you decide when to finish.
SMALL THINGS THAT ADD UP
Tap the race day weather for the full forecast. Get directions to a course start from the event Route page. Required checkout fields are clearly marked. Google sign in is smoother. Plus plenty of fixes and polish.

• Draw your own route tap by tap, snapped to real trail paths. Organisers can draw the course when creating an event too
• Share a finished run as a map card or a transparent sticker for your stories, with an offline version so sharing always works
• Send a route to another runner or share it by link
• Apple Pay now works for event merch as well as tickets
• Rate the runners you train with
