Dial puts every Sonos room on the Apple TV you are already watching, on the remote already in your hand. Open it and it is already on what is playing: the record, the room, the volume. Every room in the house is a list beside it. Group rooms from the sofa, ungroup them the same way, and hear the change before the animation finishes, because Dial talks to the speakers directly on your network. THE DIAL A brushed-metal dial with a single ember tick. Circle the remote's touch surface and the room's volume turns with it, one detent at a time, with the number in the middle. The same dial is on the phone, the iPad and the watch, so your hand already knows it. APPLE MUSIC, ON THE SPEAKERS Search the whole catalogue from the couch and play it on the Sonos, not the television. Library, folder by folder: recently played, made for you, top songs. Your Sonos favorites and playlists sit beside them. SIRI "Set the Kitchen to 40." Say the room, and Dial matches it exactly against the rooms your system has. No guessing, no near misses. THE SCREENSAVER Leave it playing and the record becomes the room: album art broken into drifting tiles, the sleeve floating in light drawn from the artwork, the lyrics in time with the song, and the cover scattered into dust that gathers itself back into the picture. PHONE TO TV Type on the phone, hear it in the room, see it on the TV. The phone can hand the television its account link, so the TV never needs a code. Sign in to Spotify on the phone once and the television gets the same session. ALSO ON YOUR IPHONE, IPAD AND APPLE WATCH The same house in your pocket, on the coffee table and on your wrist. The Lock Screen and Control Center carry play, pause, skip and volume with the app closed. Widgets and controls for every room. On Apple Watch, the crown is the dial. WHAT THE SONOS APP LEFT OUT A sleep timer, alarms you can switch on and off, exact volume entry, and a queue you can edit. Dial puts them back, over your own network. Works with your Sonos system, and with Spotify and Pandora accounts linked to it. Requires a Sonos system on the same network as your Apple TV. Some features need an Apple Music subscription.
