Textract is an on-device OCR tool built for macOS. Press a shortcut, select any area on your screen, and instantly recognize text or QR codes. The result is copied automatically, without switching apps or retyping content. SELECT AND CAPTURE • Open the selection overlay with a keyboard shortcut • Drag over any text or QR code to capture it • Automatically detect the recognition language • Choose Smart, Fast, or Deep recognition • Use smart formatting, preserve line breaks, or return a single line POWERFUL DUAL-ENGINE OCR Textract combines Apple Vision with an on-device GLM-OCR model: • Fast recognition for everyday text • Deep recognition for complex layouts • Better handling of tables, formulas, long documents, handwriting, and scans • Recognition stays on your Mac COPY AND TRANSLATE The recognized text is copied to your clipboard first. When the text differs from your target language, Textract can automatically display a translation. Copy the translation alone or copy the original and translation together. Follow your system language or choose another supported target language. PHOTOS AND PDFs TO MARKDOWN Drop in photos, handwritten notes, scans, or multi-page PDFs and convert them into readable, editable Markdown. Process multiple files in a batch, preview the result, then save or copy the finished Markdown. PRIVACY FIRST Textract reads the screen only after you start a capture and select an area. It does not continuously record your screen. Screenshots, source text, and recognition results do not need to be uploaded. Recognition and formatting run locally, and permissions can be disabled anytime in System Settings.
