Kikishiru
Hear a bird. Learn its name.
Free · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
A bird is calling nearby. Open Kikishiru and wait—clear calls get a name. On a walk, by a window, or on your wrist with Apple Watch. Nothing leaves your device.
The bird you just heard has a name.
Kikishiru listens to the birds around you and helps you learn their names. On a walk, outside a window, on a park bench—when you wonder “what bird is that?”, open the app and just wait. For a call that’s close and clear, it suggests a name within seconds, honestly, at one of three levels: Confident, Maybe, or Not sure.
Nothing special to do. No need to aim or fuss—just wait for a bird to call clearly.
Kikishiru is made for the birds of Japan—not a little of every bird in the world, but the ones you actually hear here.
■ Hear it, and know it
・Identify calls on the spot. You can also identify birds from a recording or a video from a trip.
・Recent calls stay for a few days; the ones you keep live on in “My Field Guide.” Species by species, a photo and a short note help you learn each name.
・When calls are too alike to be sure, it won’t force an answer—it lines up the likeliest candidates, honestly.
■ From your wrist, with Apple Watch
・Listen and get a name on Apple Watch alone—no need to take out your iPhone—learning names as you walk. A fine companion for walks and hikes.
・To look back through your field guide, use your iPhone.
■ Only on your device
・Identification runs entirely on your device. No account, no ads, no tracking. Your audio never leaves it.
We pass by, calling anything in the sky simply “a bird.” Yet each one has its own name—the sparrow, the bulbul, the Japanese tit. The moment you know the name, that call stops being background noise and takes a definite place in the world. Your world grows a little more detailed, quietly.
“There is no such thing as a weed”—every plant, and every bird, has a name. Long ago in Japan, people listened for the turn of the seasons in the calls of birds and insects. Kikishiru carries that ear into today’s walks.
Hear, and know. That’s what Kikishiru is here for.
※ Support for singing insects is on the way.
