Compare Snowball and Avalanche, see your debt-free date and what each plan saves. Skip a payment and see what it costs. One-time Pro unlock, no subscription. Syncs free.
Debt Descent shows you exactly when you'll be debt-free. Enter your real balances and APRs, and it lays out your payoff plans side by side so you can see which one gets you there faster and cheaper.
I built it while paying down my own debt, and the features are the ones I needed myself.
Add your debts and the extra you can pay each month, and Debt Descent runs both standard methods at once:
- Snowball: pay off the smallest balance first for quick wins
- Avalanche: pay off the highest APR first to save the most interest
You get real numbers:
- Your debt-free date and payoff time for each method
- Pick a debt-free date and see the extra it takes
- Total interest, total paid, and what each method saves, side by side
- A "descent to zero" chart that plots every balance falling to zero
- What's left over: add your take-home pay (or read it from a paystub) and the bills outside the plan, and see what's really left each week, month, and year
It also handles the parts of real life that get in the way of a plan:
- Windfalls: add a future bonus or tax refund and watch your payoff date move up
- Pay weekly, every two weeks or twice a month: each debt follows its own payment schedule
- Paydays and bills: see which paycheck covers each payment and bill, and whether what's in the bank covers what's due before the next one
- Autopay: debts and bills on autopay log themselves
- Skip or defer a month's payment, and see what it costs before you do
- Save up for a purchase, and see what charging it would cost instead
- Refinance and consolidation: model a balance transfer, a loan, or new rates per account, then apply the deal in one step
- Payment groups: log one monthly payment that covers several debts and it splits to the cent
- Promo and deferred-interest tracking, with a notification before a 0% intro APR ends
- Per-debt amortization schedules and "Test a payoff" what-ifs
- Payment logging that shows whether you're ahead of the plan or behind
- Due-date notifications you can log a payment from, a payday notification, and calendar (.ics) export
- Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight and widgets: ask when you'll be debt-free, or log a payment by voice or from the medium widget
- A "Track only" option for balances you want to watch outside the plan
- Built for accessibility: Dynamic Type up to the largest sizes, and VoiceOver reads each field and row by name
Adding a card takes seconds:
- Scan a paper statement with the camera or open a statement PDF, and Debt Descent reads the balance, APR, any intro rate, minimum, and due date for you
- Or import and export your whole plan as JSON or PDF
Sync and privacy:
- iCloud sync keeps your debts, payments, and plan up to date across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It's automatic and free.
- There's no account, no sign-up, and no server on my end. Your data lives on your device and in your own private iCloud, where I can't see it.
- There's no bank linking. You type your balances or point the camera at a statement, and nothing connects to your accounts.
- Statements are read on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Lock the app with Face ID, hide your numbers on a shared screen, and get a weekly backup in your iCloud Drive.
Debt Descent is free to use: add your debts, run Snowball and Avalanche, see your debt-free date, track payments and progress, pay on your own schedule, track bills by paycheck, put debts on autopay, skip or defer a payment, see what's left over after debt and bills, share your progress card, read a statement on your device, and export your payments as a CSV. A one-time Pro upgrade ($14.99, unlocks on all your devices and, with Family Sharing, your family's; no subscription) adds five more payoff methods including a custom order you set yourself, the what-if slider and per-debt payoff tests, picking your debt-free date, windfalls, refinance modeling, amortization schedules, PDF and calendar export, and due-date, payday and promo notifications.
I had been avoiding really looking at all of my debt because it felt overwhelming. I was making my payments, but I didn’t have everything organized in one place or a clear picture of how I was going to get out of it. After putting everything into Debt Descent, I could finally see exactly what I owe and, more importantly, see that there is a way to pay it off. It gave me a sense of relief and made the whole thing feel much more manageable. If you’re overwhelmed by your debt and just want to see everything in one place and have a plan, I definitely recommend this app.
Just what I was looking for!

I unlocked the Pro subscription since this is the only debt planner that had most, if not all, of the features I was seeking in coming up with a plan to pay off debt. I am a visual person and I’m motivated by interactive interfaces. Adding an account was straightforward and logging a payment is easy to do. What I would love for the developer to consider is having a deferment option for student loans when adding those accounts. That way I don’t have to add $1 just to hold the place when I want to list/track the loan amount. Other than that, I have no complaints. Great work!

Thank you for your review! The student loan deferment is a great idea. I've added that... and the new version will be live as soon as App Review releases it.When the app updates, just edit the student loan and turn on "In deferment — nothing due yet," set the date the deferment ends, and clear that $1 placeholder. Until that date the loan sits in your list with nothing due; when the date arrives it joins the plan on its own, and its payment comes out of your extra first so your monthly total doesn't change. There's a second switch for subsidized loans that don't accrue interest while deferred. Thanks for unlocking Pro and for taking the time to write! If anything else would make the app better, please don't hesitate to let me know: support@seanmandable.me.

Super easy to use, helpful, and a great way to track my debt. It’s also pretty educational as well. The clean design makes me WANT to use it.
Very useful and user friendly

I suggest getting the paid version as it has more options. I know it might seem counterintuitive if you’re in debt lol, but it’s worth it. Debt Descent is the first debt app I've kept on my phone… I entered my balances, set what I could pay each month, and it showed me exactly when I'd be done. Thank goodness because being in debt sucks! But with this app, it makes it seem manageable & like their is an end in site. Highly recommend!

• Lock with Face ID: turn it on in Settings ▸ Privacy, and Debt Descent asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode (your password on the Mac) before it shows your plan. On iPhone and iPad, the app switcher shows a cover instead of your numbers.
• Hide amounts, also in Settings ▸ Privacy: every dollar figure is blurred until you tap it (click it on the Mac), for a shared screen or a screen share. On the Mac, View ▸ Hide Amounts turns it on and off.
• A backup every week: Debt Descent saves a copy of your plan in its folder in iCloud Drive once a week and keeps the last eight. To put one back, open it with Import Plan. It's on unless you turn it off in Settings ▸ Backups.
• A notification before a promo ends (Pro): two months and again two weeks before a promo rate or a deferred-interest promo ends, with what's left and how much a month clears it in time. You can turn it off in Settings ▸ Notifications.
• Other bills on the Left over card opens to list each bill.
• Payoff method is in Settings ▸ Plan now, and tapping a method card on the Plan tab still changes it.
• The method you're using shows a checkmark on its card, the chart starts at "Now", and the Progress chart shows your whole plan when it fits.
• Upcoming can leave out paydays with nothing due: Settings ▸ Plan.
• When your plan never clears with Roll payments forward off, it now names the debt whose own minimum can't keep up, and what to change.
• Smaller touches: sheets keep their title in view as you scroll, each History row on iPhone has one ••• menu, and fold arrows turn as fast as the card opens.
• On iPad, sheets open in the middle of the screen, and Full schedule and Refinance show every column.
• On the Mac, Esc closes Settings, Income & bills, Payoff methods and Full schedule.
New in 1.20.2
• Pay a debt weekly, every 2 weeks or twice a month: set it in Edit details.
• Paydays and bills with due dates in Upcoming, with what each paycheck has to cover.
• Autopay for debts, payment groups and bills, and a "1% plus interest" minimum for cards.
Thank you for using Debt Descent! If something isn't working the way you'd expect, or there's a feature you'd like me to add, please don't hesitate to let me know at support@seanmandable.me.
