Access Journal is a read-only security auditor for your Mac. See who signed the apps it can read in your Applications folders and which apps hold the most powerful permissions. APP IDENTITY: NO SPECIAL ACCESS NEEDED Code signatures help macOS identify who shipped an app and whether its executable has been altered since signing. Access Journal checks the signing identity and executable signature of readable apps in your Applications folders. It flags unsigned apps, executables whose signatures fail validation, and apps signed with certificates macOS does not recognize. These findings deserve a closer look, but they do not prove that an app is malicious. Mark an exact app identity as recognized to keep the list focused. If its signer or unsigned executable changes, Access Journal asks you to review it again. HIGH-RISK PERMISSIONS: OPTIONAL FULL DISK ACCESS Some permissions let an app control your Mac, record your screen, monitor keyboard input, or read every file. With Full Disk Access, Access Journal shows which apps hold these system-level permissions: Accessibility, Screen Recording, Input Monitoring, Full Disk Access, Developer Tools, and App Management. Each permission is paired with the app's signing identity. • See when each permission record last changed • Add a private note on why you granted it • Jump straight to the right System Settings pane to change it • Track what's changed since you last reviewed LEARN Plain-English guides explain each high-risk permission, what an app's signature does and doesn't prove, and how to review or remove access. You don't need to be a security expert to make sense of it. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Access Journal is read-only and runs entirely on your Mac. It never changes a permission (it sends you to System Settings for that), makes no network connections, or sends data off your Mac. Notes and review history stay only in Access Journal's local storage. A note on scope: Apple's sandbox limits what an App Store app can read, so the permission view covers system-level (high-risk) permissions. Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Calendars, Photos, and Location remain in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security. Notifications are managed separately in System Settings ▸ Notifications.
