Morning Readiness: Recovery

Transparent HRV & sleep score

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Your score now explains how it moves: what each input can do, what one more hour of sleep would have scored, and where today sits among all your mornings. Morning Readiness gives you one honest number each morning: a 0–100 readiness score built from your overnight recovery — and it shows you exactly how it got there. No coaching. No subscription. No black box. Just the signal. HOW IT WORKS Each morning, Morning Readiness reads three things from Apple Health and compares them to your own personal baseline: • Heart Rate Variability (HRV) — your overnight SDNN versus your normal range • Resting Heart Rate — an elevated resting pulse pulls the score down • Sleep — last night's time asleep, against a nightly target you set yourself Every input is shown as signed points, so you always see why your score is what it is — not just the number. TRANSPARENT BY DESIGN Most recovery apps hand you a score and ask you to trust it. Morning Readiness does the opposite: • See each input's contribution, broken out point by point • Scored against YOUR baseline, not population averages • A confidence level on every reading • See how far each input can move your score, and what one more hour of sleep would have scored • When there isn't enough data to be honest, it shows no score — it never invents one HONEST ABOUT DATA Apple Watch records HRV only occasionally — mostly during sleep and Breathe sessions — so some nights are sparse. Morning Readiness surfaces that coverage instead of hiding it, and tells you how much to trust each morning's number. GROUNDED IN RESEARCH The way your score weighs HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep is based on peer-reviewed research. Tap "How it works & sources" on the Today screen to read the citations behind every input. TRENDS Watch your recovery move over time with clean 7- and 30-day charts. Spot the toll of a hard week or a cold coming on before you feel it. THE MORNING AFTER See how active you were each day, right next to the morning that followed it. Morning Readiness reads your active energy for context only — it is never part of your score, and the app never tells you what it means. If your watch was off for much of a day, that day is left blank rather than shown as a quiet one. WIDGETS & APPLE WATCH • Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets in every size • Your score at a glance on your iPhone • A companion Apple Watch app and complications — your readiness right on your wrist PRIVATE BY DEFAULT Your health data is read on-device and never leaves your iPhone. No account. No cloud. No tracking. FREE, IN FULL Every feature is free. No subscription, no unlock to buy, no upsell — the whole app, including all future updates. — Morning Readiness requires an Apple Watch that records heart rate and HRV, and is for general wellness and fitness use only. Two themes this time: the score explains its own arithmetic, and you decide what a full night means for you. HOW YOUR SCORE MOVES A new screen, one tap from the breakdown on Today. It shows how far each input can move your score, what this same morning would have scored with one more hour of sleep, and where today sits among every morning still in your history. It describes the scoring function, not your body — arithmetic, not a forecast, and still no advice. A SLEEP TARGET THAT'S YOURS Settings now has a nightly sleep target, anywhere from 6 to 9 hours. Sleep is scored against your target instead of one fixed number, and the cap a short night puts on your score scales with it. Change it and today is re-scored on the spot; earlier mornings keep the target they were scored against. THE MORNING AFTER "Your inputs" has a fourth chart — the active energy you recorded each day for the last 30, with a dot above each day marking where your HRV landed the morning after. On the Trend tab, one line names your most active days of the last month and says what HRV did the mornings that followed. Two facts side by side; the app never draws the arrow between them. Reading Active Energy is optional and changes nothing about the number — the scoring pipeline can't see it. And if your watch was off your wrist for much of a day, that day is left blank rather than drawn as a quiet one: a day the app couldn't observe isn't a day you rested. A MORNING NOTE THAT WAITS You can now set the earliest a morning notification may arrive — "Not before", anywhere from 4:00 to 10:00, starting at 7:00. It also waits until the night is genuinely over, so it can't reach you mid-sleep. Your score still lands on your widgets and watch face as soon as it's ready: the setting holds the buzz, never the reading. A CLEARER FIRST RUN Onboarding now explains what the app does, what it reads, and what it will never claim — before it asks for Health access. ALSO IN THIS RELEASE • A reading taken after midnight now describes the night that ended on its own day, not the night before. • "How it works" explains why this score can disagree with Apple's Sleep Score — the two measure different things. • An Apple Watch running an older version can no longer overwrite a correct score on your iPhone. • Inputs sitting near your baseline are now coloured the same on the watch and in widgets as they are on the phone.
