Here Am I keeps your computer awake while you're actually in front of it — and lets it sleep the moment you step away.
Most "keep awake" apps are just a timer: they hold your screen on for an hour, two hours, or until you remember to switch them off. macOS itself is no better — it sleeps on a blind countdown, dimming your screen mid-read even when you're sitting right there. Here Am I takes the middle path. It senses whether you're present and keeps your screen awake only while you are. No duration to set. Nothing to remember. When you leave, your computer sleeps the way it should.
PRESENCE, NOT A TIMER
You never set a time limit. Here Am I responds to whether you're there — so it won't sleep on you while you read a long document or watch something hands-free, and it won't stay needlessly awake all afternoon after you've gone.
WORKS WITH NO CAMERA AND NO PERMISSIONS
By default, Here Am I uses Activity mode. It senses your presence from what's already happening on your computer: recent typing or trackpad movement, audio or video playback, and other apps doing real work — like a download, export, or call that's asked to stay awake. All of this runs with no camera access and no permission prompts. It just works the moment you launch it.
OPTIONAL CAMERA PRESENCE — FULLY ON-DEVICE
If you want true presence detection, Here Am I offers optional camera modes. It looks only for a face — never identifying you, never recording, never storing anything. Choose a gentle glance only when your screen is about to sleep, or a continuous low-resolution check for instant response. Every frame is analyzed on your device, in memory, and discarded immediately. The camera is off by default, and the app has no network access at all — nothing ever leaves your device.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No analytics. No tracking. No network requests. Whether you use Activity mode or a camera mode, nothing about your usage — or your camera — ever leaves your device.
QUIET AND OUT OF THE WAY
Here Am I lives in your menu bar. One switch turns it on. A clear status line always tells you why your screen is awake — recent input, playback, another app working, or because it sees you. There's nothing to configure to get started.
WORKS ON EVERY MAC
Activity mode works on any Mac, with or without a camera. On a computer with no camera, only Activity mode is offered. Connect a camera — or use your iPhone as a Continuity Camera — and the camera modes become available automatically.
Stop tapping your trackpad to keep the screen alive. Here Am I stays awake while you're there, sleeps when you leave, and never sends anything anywhere.
