FlexWord is a word guessing game designed around customization and pressure-free play.
7 Modes to Explore:
The Daily FlexWord, 5 letters, 6 guesses, plus 2 more if you're stuck. Curated and released daily. This is the mode everyone knows.
FlexStarter, a new take on the guessing game. You design a set of starter words, from 2 to 4. Lock in your pack of words and receive the clues all at once. You have 3 turns to solve. It's pretty easy when set to 4 starters, but gets tricky with only 2. There's a new logic to designing packs of words, rather than choosing them one-at-a-time. FlexStarter requires a whole new strategy.
FlexPlay, design your own game from cozy to extremely challenging. You can choose from 3 to 6 letter words, 4 difficulty selections, and the number of guesses, too, up to 12. Get stuck? There's an inline hint feature that, when selected, reveals how many solutions are left, and a strong word to guess.
FlexArena, play against several algorithmically powered bots. Each match affects your ELO rating. The bots take interesting paths to solving the puzzles. I’ve picked up some new words from this mode.
FlexBard, for the literary crowd. 50 hand crafted puzzles that use words taken from Shakespeare's poems/plays. The celebration screen includes a quote from his works where the word appears. This mode uses various word lengths and, spoiler, languages. Qua?
FlexHint, this solver takes your clues and reveals the words that solve the puzzle. It's not wired into the Daily or FlexArena, but there's a one-click integration with FlexPlay, the sandbox mode.
FlexHint doubles as a trainer, flagging potential traps (like _ATCH) before they cost you turns, so you get sharper the more you play.
FlexRate collects feedback on the word list here. You are shown a word and you sort it into the 4 difficulty bands, easy, normal, hard, and extreme.
Other Key Features
• Unobtrusive Ads: Light ad presence so you can play smoothly without constant breaks. I play games too, and I hate being bombarded with unskippable mid-solve ads.
• Smart Keyboard: Real-time feedback on your progress reminds you what letters haven't been placed yet. No more reaching guess 6 before remembering you had a clue about an 'M' on row 1.
• Three Keyboard Layouts: QWERTY, the standard; Frequency, letters organized by how often they're used in English; and Vowels, the frequency layout with vowels separated to their own row.
• Customizable UI & Home Screen: Rearrange items in the bento-box style home screen layout to highlight what you play most, or set the app to launch directly into your favorite mode.
• Preload your starter: The game launches with your favorite starter as the first guess, if you choose.
• The Visualizer: places an underscore as a placeholder in the guess, so that you can better visualize possible answers.
• No Daily Locks or Streak Anxiety: Play one game or 20 in a single session. Access the back catalog of daily puzzles anytime without a subscription or daily loss counters.
• Word List & Definitions: Every target word reveals a definition at game end, powered by Wordnik, so you build vocabulary as you play. Backed by a public word list you can view and debate online. A handful of the most obscure Extreme-band words don't have definitions yet.
• Difficulty Selection: In FlexPlay you can choose any of 4 difficulty bands, or mix and match, including the full word list up to Extreme.
• Diverse Design: Choose from 9 color themes ranging from vibrant to cozy.
