Run science. Beat the runway.
You're a biotech founder with $1.8M starting funding and a countdown clock.
Every month, choose how to spend it: hire researchers, upgrade your lab facility, fund the R&D, and push your science forward.
Pick your research project and the risk that comes with it. Low-risk projects have clear path but modest returns. Or go for a Moonshot project that has very low odds but can change the science forever!
Your company moves through real stages, from Discovery to Exit-Ready, and your company valuation changes accordingly. Along the way, investors will offer equity deals, acquirers will come knocking with buyout offers and all the craziness of doing research!
When the money runs out or you decide to sell your company, your story becomes your legacy. An archived record of the company you built, the science you funded, and the lives you affected. Play again with a new strategy, a new project, and a new outcome.
Science & Runway is a full simulation, not an idle clicker. Every project, every hire, every event is calculated from real startup mechanics. No ads, no in-app purchases, no timers waiting to be skipped.
Features:
- Four research risk tiers, from steady science to civilization-scale moonshots
- Full financial simulation: burn rate, facility tiers, R&D budgets, equity and investment offers
- Six-stage company progressions from Discovery to Exit-Ready
- Random events that shape your science and runway
- Real decisions to be made: Are you going to accept the acquisition offer or complete your scientific vision and save lives?
As someone who works in biotech, I can say this is pretty realistic! Great job!
Funny concept and potential to be great

I saw this game in the r/labrats reddit and immediately installed it. I find it fun to play. The Good:* it is a simple concept that is elegantly executed * the visual design matches the aesthetic and is both 8 bit pixels and cute* bonus points for a non-binary option for what is purely cosmetic * The difficulty really does scale with the different levels of researchThe Not So Good:* I feel that the different starting positions become meaningless after your first project or so. They do have a major impact on the first project but once you are past 1 million you can just spam “purchase equipment” and it’s smooth sailing. Maybe they can be tuned to have more of an impact in mid and late game. * there’s a UI bug where the “patients impacted” counter gets stuck around 400k. I got worried about it in the beginning that after multiple projects the counter was not going up. Luckily after I exited the final count it showed was significantly higher* I feel that there should be more of a consequence (or if there is one, it should be more visible) with people leaving beyond just the morale drop. As it stands I can just let go of anyone asking for equity or a raise and rehire another person. * related to the above, the names for PhDs and RAs are diverse it the randomized may get stuck. I probable fired and rehired Dr. James every turn for probably 6 months straight. Final verdict:Good execution with potential to be great. I’m happy to beta test and : or provide programming help to a fellow lab rat. (Offer not valid for non lab rats)
Developer Response
Thank you so much for trying the game and for such a thoughtful review! As a fellow labrat, it genuinely means a lot. This has been a solo mission and feedbacks help me like I am brainstorming with others.Your critiques are excellent. I agree with them and I’ll work on making the different backgrounds continue to matter throughout the game instead of mostly affecting the opening. Just like including different genders, I wanted to represent the different paths scientists can take and still pursue their dreams. The patient counter getting stuck is definitely a bug. Thank you for pointing it out. I’ll track it down and fix it ASAP.I also agree that losing team members should have more lasting consequences. I have a few ideas to make each hire feel more valuable without becoming frustrating. And yes, poor Dr. James looks like has apparently been hired and fired more times than anyone deserves. I guess it accidentally reflects how tough the job market is these days! I’ll definitely add many more names, along with the future features I have in mind. Thanks again for the kind words and the constructive feedback. Reviews like this help me see where the game can grow, and they make all the effort worth it! I hope future updates make you enjoy the game even more!
