Will there be a meteor shower tonight — and can you actually see it? MeteorCast answers in one screen. A single Tonight card gives you a Good / Maybe / Poor verdict and a 0–100 score, computed on your device from four honest inputs: which meteor shower is active tonight (by IAU rate), how high its radiant sits above your horizon, how much the Moon will wash out faint meteors, and how thick your local cloud cover is. No paywalls hiding the answer. No paragraphs to read to find out. Behind the verdict are four expandable reasons you can inspect at a glance: • Shower activity — which shower is peaking tonight, its Zenithal Hourly Rate ceiling, and whether tonight sits inside its active window (Perseids, Geminids, Quadrantids, Leonids, Lyrids, Orionids, Eta Aquariids, Taurids, and other major showers from an embedded IAU/AMS reference). • Radiant altitude — the radiant's current altitude above your horizon, computed from J2000 equatorial coordinates and your observation spot's latitude. A radiant near the horizon means fewer meteors; a high radiant means many. • Moonlight interference — an interference index built from moon phase and current moon altitude. A near-full moon high in the sky can hide most meteors even under a great forecast; MeteorCast tells you exactly how much. • Cloud cover — cloud percentage and visibility from WeatherKit for your observation spot. Tri-state: if WeatherKit is unavailable, MeteorCast keeps the last verdict and clearly labels the missing factor rather than pretending. MeteorCast 1.1: • Fixed: cloud cover now loads. Version 1.0 was missing the WeatherKit permission, so the cloud factor was always reported as unavailable and the verdict was degraded. We're sorry — this update restores it. • Smarter cloud factor: the verdict now uses Apple Weather's low, mid and high cloud layers. Thin high cloud costs less than a low overcast — bright meteors may still show through cirrus, and the cloud reason tells you when that's the case. • Home screen widget: the next meteor shower's visibility estimate for your spot — verdict, peak date and radiant window. Medium size on iOS 18 or later; an extra-large size on iOS 27. The widget is an astronomy estimate; open the app for tonight's cloud cover. • Meteor showers appear in Spotlight search and open straight to their forecast. • Shortcuts and Siri: "Open the next shower in MeteorCast".
