MixTape is a local-first music player that dresses your files in three coined retro visual skins: a Cassette Deck with spinning reels, a Compact Disc with a chrome spinning disc, and a Pocket Player with an LCD strip. Pick your era, drop in your MP3s and FLACs, and listen the way music used to feel. Everything happens on your device — no streaming, no accounts, no telemetry, no ads.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• Local file import — Bring in MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, AIF, AIFF from the Files app. Files stay on your device. MixTape reads metadata (title, artist, album, artwork) from your files and organizes them into a library you own.
• Three coined retro skins — Not replicas of any specific vintage device. Cassette Deck (yellow tape body, six-spoke reels that actually rotate at 60fps), Compact Disc (chrome silver disc that spins with playback), and Pocket Player (an LCD strip that scrolls). Skin selection lives in Settings.
• Synchronized lyrics (LRC) — Drop a matching .lrc file next to your track and MixTape scrolls the lyrics in time with playback. Line-level timestamped format; simple, offline, no lyrics service required.
• Playlists — Group your tracks into local playlists via SwiftData. No cloud sync, no sharing pipeline; your library is yours.
• Search, sort, filter — Sort by Recent / Artist / Album. Search by title, artist, or album. Instant, offline.
• AVPlayer under the hood — Rock-solid iOS audio pipeline for MP3/FLAC/WAV/AAC/AIFF. Standard iOS lock-screen and Control Center integration.
WHAT MIXTAPE IS NOT
• Not a streaming service. There is no catalog to browse. Bring your own files.
• Not a music discovery or recommendation app.
• Not a social or sharing app.
• No advertising. No subscription. No account.
PRIVACY FIRST
There is no backend server, no analytics SDK, no attribution SDK, no cloud sync. Your library, your playback history, and your listening preferences never leave your device. Purchase history is tracked by Apple (as with any IAP) for entitlement — MixTape itself has no server. Nutrition label: Purchases used only for App Functionality, linked to you per Apple's standard IAP model. Nothing else collected.
