Liminal: The Atrium

Philosophy with great minds

Free · In‑App Purchases

Not a chatbot — a hall of philosophers. Debate Nietzsche, bring a real decision to The Tribunal, carry one question through your day. Private by design. Liminal is a quiet game about thinking. You arrive in the Atrium — a hall of doors. Behind each door is a great mind, reconstructed from their writings to think *with* you: Albert Camus on the café terrace, Nietzsche at altitude, Rumi turning toward the Beloved, Kafka in the unmarked office, the Stoic Marcus Aurelius, and more than a dozen others. Choose a voice, choose how you want to be met — challenged, accompanied, or left mostly to silence — and play. THE GAMES • Words for the Sea — offer a handful of words and receive a short poem in the thinker's voice. • Ask anything — put a real question to a real mind and hear a considered reply. • The Descent — one question, then deeper, and deeper still. • The Dilemma — a classic thought-experiment that branches to a reflection with no clean answer. • The Fork, The Reframe, Agree or Disagree, The Mask, A Minute of Silence — short games that read you back to yourself. ENCOUNTERS — where the voices meet • Two Voices — ask two thinkers one question and watch the second answer the first. • The Symposium — a panel answers, and a neutral narrator names the sharpest disagreement. • Philosophers' Football — draft two sides from the roster and let the eternal match be narrated. • The Oracle, The Gift, The Mirror — smaller rooms for fortune, reflection, and a parting tool to carry. QUIET BY DESIGN No ads. No tracking. No feed. Liminal asks nothing of you but attention. Many games work offline, for free. A NOTE ON THE VOICES The thinkers in Liminal are AI reconstructions written in each mind's spirit — they are not the real people, and nothing they say is professional advice. Liminal is for reflection, not counsel. Live, in-character answers are generated by Anthropic's Claude. The hall grows in every direction. THE DAILY PRACTICE • The Threshold: each morning, one question worth carrying, from a rotating voice. Sit with it, take it to their door, answer it in the evening. A gentle streak — it never scolds. Optional morning reminders. NEW ENCOUNTERS • The Tribunal: bring a real decision. Two voices argue for, two against — and you deliver the verdict, kept as a dated record. • The Everyday: a cancelled flight, a Sunday dread. Pick the moment, pick the mind, and hear it met — without a lecture. • Two Voices is now a real exchange: let them go on, round after round, or add your own voice to the room. • The Symposium can now seek common ground, not only name the fault line. • Debates, verdicts, and match commentary are now keepable and shareable. LEARN • Study: every voice's key ideas in plain language, a searchable index, and guided paths that complete as you genuinely meet each thinker. • The Corridors: how one mind led to another — fifteen documented passages, from Schopenhauer's bookstall to the seven cities of Love. • Explain it back: say an idea in your own words, and the voice itself tells you what you grasped and what you missed. • If this resonated, read: doors out to the real, free public-domain texts. YOURS • Reflections: write privately about any line you keep. • Collections: gather kept lines and starred ideas into shelves of your own. • A portrait of you: a warm, on-device reading of the voices you return to. • The chambers now remember your last visit and greet you on return — composed on your device, erasable, and off with one switch. • Everything personal syncs through your own iCloud. We never see it. QUIET CRAFT • A generative soundscape behind each door, tuned to each chamber (off by default, honors the silent switch). • Answers now arrive word by word. Softer haptics, unhurried transitions. • Widget and watch lines now read "Inspired by" the voice — because they are originals in their spirit, never quotations.
