Capture what you did and why, recall it then when it matters. The work log you and your AI can contribute to, read, and search. Native Mac and iPhone.
CogniLog is a work log for anything worth remembering. It captures the story behind your work: the decisions, the dead ends, and the reasoning you would otherwise forget. Whether your days are made of code, meetings, deliverables, chapters, or experiments, you write it down once and get it back whenever you need it.
The work log your AI can read.
CogniLog's macOS version comes with a built-in connection (an MCP server) that lets an AI assistant you already use, like Claude, read your log and answer questions about your own work, even entries authored in the iOS version. Ask what you were doing last week, or why you made a call three months ago. Your assistant can even add entries of its own, so the two of you share one space that you both write to and read from.
Write the way you already write.
Entries are plain text with light Markdown, and they format as you type. Headings become headings, code becomes code. Drop in a #tag and CogniLog files it for you, and channels keep each project or context separate. No forms, no fields, just the log.
See the year, drill to the moment.
Capture is only half the job. The Almanac turns your log into a map. Scan whole months at a glance, hover any day for a summary of what happened, and drill from the year down to a single entry. Come back from a busy week, or a week away, and pick the thread back up.
Built native, and it feels it.
A real Mac app and a real iPhone app, not a website in a wrapper. Log from your Mac while you work, or catch a thought on your phone while you wait in line. Capture meets you where you are, from the menu bar to the lock screen widget, with optional daily and streak reminders.
Yours, and only yours.
No new accounts and no servers of ours. Your log stays on your devices and syncs through your own iCloud when you want it everywhere. Using the macOS version bring your history in from apps like Apple Notes, Day One, Obsidian, and Bear, or any Markdown files, viewing it on your iOS device; and take it all back out as plain Markdown any time. No lock-in, no ads, no tracking.
Currently free.
Everything in the app is free right now. If that ever changes, it won't change for the people already here.

I like this app a lot. The “cost” of adapting to it is both low and high; token expenditure is minimal and when used as designed it records in background on its own. But something in background that’s never used isn’t particularly helpful…so the biggest hurdle is just considering how you’ll adapt your CC workflow to include this. By now we’ve all solidified these habits, so changing this pattern is really the only cost. But it’s probably worth it! Knowledge management continues to be one of the largest struggles in LLMs (for me, at least,) and this has been totally helpful. Besides, it’s a well-designed app, it’s on all platforms, and it has a cool name ☺️ It seems to be updated frequently. I’m glad I found it. Would recommend!
It all ends up here for the views

This has been exactly what I needed for looking back over what I worked on over time. I capture my notes in many places but thanks to the easy import capabilities end up funneling them to this app for a comprehensive overview and search. The quick look style of each view combined with the calendar like overviews views really are what set this app apart from the other note capture apps I use. Hopefully we get more integrations, I could use calendar events so that my meetings automatically sync.

Thank you for taking the time to write this! Glad to know the imports are working well and that the views are providing a good landscape of awareness for you. CogniLog is meant to work well with your current apps too, anything in CogniLog can be exported to the other apps you use as well as long as they support markdown importing. We want CogniLog to be a part of your existing workflow not usurp it. Calendar integration is certainly on the roadmap and should be a feature shipping soon, check out the developer website for updates on features, and thanks again for using the app!

This app has become the overview of my life! It’s so easy to use and the views give a perfect overview. The views are 100% what set this app apart from the others. Being able to actually go back and review what happened when and on what project all in one place is a game changer!Looking forward to seeing this app grow!I would love to see an Apple Watch app at least for quick input and I hope we get some more shortcuts for iOS.
Developer Response
Thank you! "the overview of my life" reflects exactly the recall story CogniLog is meant to provide, and it's great to hear the views are doing that job for you.I'm glad you mentioned Shortcuts. While there is a "Log to CogniLog" action available in iOS and Mac, broader coverage (more actions, more parameters) is on the roadmap. If there's anything specific you'd like to automate please feel free to reach out at support@rivetrune.com anytime.I am upping the priority to get CogniLog on Apple Watch since you've requested it! Check out the website for future progress updates when it gets closer to shipping.Thank you so much for taking the time to write this.
New app icon, redesigned for iOS 27. A simpler version, Basic, is in Settings > Appearance > App Icon.
When you're viewing one channel, new entries now go to that channel by default.
Smoother scrolling in the Almanac's month view.
Added anonymous app analytics to understand overall usage and guide feature development.
