PitchVaders
Shoot the wrong notes
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
PitchVaders is a musical shoot'em up in the spirit of the arcade classics. Your ship carries a chord; facing you, a swarm of notes comes down. It is up to you to recognise, by ear and by reading, the ones that belong to your chord.
• Shoot the ENEMY notes — the ones that do not belong to your chord.
• Spare (or catch!) the FRIENDLY notes — the ones that make up your chord.
• Every enemy note destroyed = +1 point. Hitting a friendly note = −1 point.
• Move your ship with ◀ ▶ and fire with the FIRE button (on a keyboard: A / D + Z; arrows + ↑ for player 2).
• Play alone or with TWO players on the same screen, each with their ship and their chord.
• A game lasts 5 minutes (or until the wave is cleared), then your score becomes a mark out of 10.
Notation of your choice (ABC or Do-Re-Mi), optional display of flats, built-in tutorial and settings page: PitchVaders helps you memorise how major and minor chords are built, while having fun.
FOR TEACHERS — A free class session: the teacher creates a class code and shares it with their students, who enter it before playing. The students' scores are then grouped together to follow their progress. Everything is 100% FREE, with no in-app purchases and no subscription.
Ideal in the music classroom as well as at home. Part of the Lusique family of educational music games.
Ideal for learning music theory and aural training, at conservatoire as well as at music school.
