The Welcome screen that greets a new user now keeps its text and buttons clear of the camera on the iPhone Duo's outer screen, and leaves room for the status bar at the top of every iPhone and iPad screen.

Splits and lumps on Species Detail now covers eBird's taxonomy updates from 2019 to 2025, adding the 2019, 2021, and 2022 updates. Species eBird split or lumped in those years now appear in the list, with what each was, what it became, and how many of your reports eBird reassigned. SnowRaven now fills the iPhone Duo's inner screen. On the Duo's outer screen, the bottom bar, the More sheet, and the Alerts inbox keep their buttons clear of the camera, and on a wide iPhone screen, such as the Duo's inner screen or an iPhone turned sideways, tapping a filter field no longer zooms the page.

Larger eBird backups now load on iPhone and iPad (up to 64 MB), using less memory, and life list milestones continue past 3,000 species to 10,000.

Four-letter codes in Media Targets. With no Macaulay Library export loaded, the Target Species search on Map Explorer's Media Targets view now finds a bird by its four-letter code, such as YRWA, or by its scientific name. Named Birds cards no longer cut off names, places, or links on narrow screens or at large text sizes. In light mode, the bird name on a 500 to 999 milestone badge is easier to read when you hover over it or reach it with the keyboard.

Media links on Named Birds. Each named bird's media section now opens with a numbered list of links to every photo, recording, and video of that bird, grouped by type and newest first, and each number opens that item on the Macaulay Library, even while the players inside the app cannot load. Four-letter codes in Search. Typing a bird's four-letter code, such as YRWA or AMRO, in Search or any species picker now finds that bird. When a code names several of your birds, all of them are listed first, ahead of the name matches.

First of Year on Species Detail. A new card lists the first date you reported the species in each year, each date opening its checklist on eBird, with a small chart of those first dates across the years once you have reported the species in two or more. Choosing System under Appearance now follows a light or dark change you make on your device while SnowRaven is open.

On the Map Explorer, reports now take the right recency color in the weeks after clocks spring forward for daylight saving time, and in the List Comparer a breeding code the app does not recognize now always shows as the code itself. In Settings, Remove synced files from iCloud no longer stops at the first file iCloud will not delete. It removes everything it can, and Copy iCloud details names any file that stayed. The app now reaches only the web services it already used, each at the addresses it calls, and its content security policy now also covers the scripts it runs in the background, such as the one that draws the map. Neither changes anything you see or do.

On the Targets tab, long species names now wrap within their row instead of making the table scroll sideways. In Settings, Appearance now says correctly where your color scheme is saved. If eBird is limiting requests when the app looks up which of your places are public hotspots, it now asks eBird again, up to three more times over about seven minutes, so those place names become hotspot links as soon as eBird answers instead of staying plain text until you restart the app. The app now runs under a content security policy: its window runs only SnowRaven's own code, and loads map tiles, link icons and Macaulay Library players only from the services it already used. Nothing you see or do changes. On the Statistics tab, the milestone badges in Firsts & Milestones are now one uniform size on an even grid, and a long species name wraps inside its badge. Milestones of 1,000 and above show a thousands separator, and the check mark on each badge is gone.

Home-screen widgets that refresh at the same time now make one eBird request between them. In Settings, Remove synced files from iCloud now tells you when it could not finish. Help is brought up to date. On the Targets tab, a hotspot's name under Last report now opens its page on eBird.

Alerts, on iPhone and iPad. Turn them on in Settings and SnowRaven tells you when eBird reports a species you have never recorded near a place you choose, checking about hourly or about daily, with quiet hours and an inbox of past alerts. Alerts are off until you turn them on. Species Detail now shows, for any species eBird has split or lumped, what it was, what it became, and how many of your reports eBird reassigned in each update. Home-screen widgets can now measure from your Default Location instead of where you are: touch and hold a widget, choose Edit Widget, and set Measure from. On iPhone, Settings now always shows at the bottom of the More sheet, at every text size.

SnowRaven 1.0.40 adds a Targets tab: choose a US county and see the birds there you still need, ranked by eBird's frequencies or by what has been reported lately. With iCloud Sync on, a county's bar-chart file you add on the Targets tab reaches your other iPhone, iPad and Mac, and the recent eBird reports behind Targets are shared between them, so one device does not ask eBird again for what another already fetched. A new Bar-chart files section in Settings removes them all at once. Targets opens on your lifers, and the Calendar's Breeding overlay now starts by category.

SnowRaven 1.0.38 adds overlays to the Calendar. Two switches under Overlays mark the days you brought home photos, recordings or videos, and the breeding codes you recorded, each led by a circle for Confirmed, Probable or Possible. Both stay off until you turn them on. The app now also opens on a small white raven on SnowRaven green, which clears as soon as the first screen is ready.

SnowRaven 1.0.36 adds two home-screen widgets for iPhone and iPad. Nearby Lifers and Media Targets list the nearest recent eBird reports of birds you still need, and a tap opens the matching view in Map Explorer. They need iOS or iPadOS 17 or later.

SnowRaven 1.0.35 is a small fix. On Checklists, choosing a county or a protocol and then going back to All counties or All protocols now returns the picker to its normal light outline, instead of leaving a heavy outline around it. The species picker on Calendar, Species Detail, Statistics and Map Explorer now draws its bottom edge in the same light color as its other three sides.

SnowRaven 1.0.34 is a round of polish. On iPhone, the county and date filters on Multimedia, Breeding Codes, Species Detail and Checklists now read as one block: the county picker across the top, then a joined From and To pair that says what each field is before you pick a date. The Map Explorer's Date Range filter gets the same pair. Filter and toggle pills across every tab now share one shape, and on iPhone and iPad at large text sizes controls and their labels grow together instead of being cut down. The Weather tab's Planner can no longer be made to hang while it draws by a malformed or absurd forecast. No change to any plan a real forecast produces.

SnowRaven 1.0.32 is a round of fixes, plus a small change to Settings. Settings now opens on API Keys, with Default Files just below it, so the two sections you need first are the first ones you see. Current tide on iPhone and iPad was showing as unavailable instead of fetching the tide for where you are. It works again. Weather lookups no longer invent a reading when the forecast service sends back something SnowRaven cannot read. A missing temperature could show as an ordinary-looking figure, and could reach the copy-ready block you paste into an eBird checklist. Both now simply say the weather is unavailable. A forecast at high latitudes, and a single bad hour in a response, no longer cost the whole lookup. A tide time SnowRaven cannot read now drops that high or low from the reading, instead of producing a plausible but wrong water level. Sort controls on List Comparer, Multimedia and Species Detail now announce which option is selected to VoiceOver, matching the one on Checklists that already did.

SnowRaven 1.0.31 is a round of fixes. Tide water levels no longer depend on the time zone of the server the app talks to, so a checklist tide reads correctly even on the two days a year the clock shifts. When a weather or tide service sends back something SnowRaven cannot read, you now get a clear note that the data is unavailable, instead of a raw error or a message claiming you are offline when you are not. In the Weather and tide Planner on a phone, a plan fetched in the evening printed its first two day labels on top of each other. Each label now shortens, or steps aside, to stay inside its own day column. Species pickers on Calendar, Species Detail and Statistics no longer rebuild their whole list when something unrelated on the page changes, so typing stays quick on a long list.

SnowRaven 1.0.30 lets the Weather/tide Planner read any moment you pick. Tap or click anywhere on the plan's timeline, or focus it and use the arrow keys, and a fixed readout beneath the legend gives that moment: the local time, the predicted tide height and whether it is rising or falling, the weather in force with its hourly or daily label, and how high the sun sits. Every figure is estimated from the plan already on your device, never a fresh lookup, so a pick costs no request and works on a replayed plan, including one loaded before this version. The Left and Right arrow keys step 15 minutes, with Shift an hour; Page Up and Page Down move a day; Home and End go to the ends; Escape clears. The timeline is a single slider for assistive technology, announcing the picked moment through its own value. A warm line beneath the tide curve now draws how high the sun sits across the whole window, filled while the sun is up and receding to a thin line below the horizon, crossing zero exactly where the plan lists sunrise and sunset. Each day in the list states the sun's highest point and its time, and its moon phase, as the same glyph the checklist weather blocks write with the phase name beside it. The Weather tab's second entry now reads Plan, and the two actions inside it read Get specific forecast and See all upcoming weather and tide data. The plan's day list runs earliest first down one column beneath the chart, under a labelled Day by day divider, and the chart's day and night bands are repainted so the plot reads as daylight and night rather than one blue-grey field.

SnowRaven 1.0.28 keeps every Missing Weather action tied to the correct checklist. Opening a checklist, opening its comment page, and Copy weather & go now keep that row's validated identity after the list is reordered, widened, or paged, instead of sometimes collapsing onto one checklist until SnowRaven restarts.

SnowRaven 1.0.27 improves accuracy, security, accessibility, and release reliability. • Species Detail now counts distinct checklists, so subspecies rows cannot inflate sightings or push Frequency above 100%. • Birding Stats safely handles species names such as constructor, toString, and __proto__ without creating malformed links. • Documentation keeps keyboard focus while open, Escape closes only the topmost overlay, and focus returns to its opener. • The website Weather screenshot now includes complete Weather and Tide results, and its image tooling is updated to Sharp 0.35.4. • Responsive tests now activate only the exact phone media query they intend.

SnowRaven 1.0.24 improves accessibility and upload reliability. • Every app-owned button and link now uses one shared keyboard-accessibility foundation. Intentional tab-order exceptions remain explicit and automatically guarded. • Repeated invalid or oversized file selections are now announced reliably by assistive technology. • Upload-size messages now derive from the enforced 50 MB limit, so the visible message and server rule cannot drift apart. • At the largest text size, phone headers and narrow weather labels now stay within the screen across platform font differences. • The accessibility statement now describes the durable keyboard-order rule without copying a test-owned exception count.

SnowRaven finally reads the weather blocks it has been writing. Every time you look up a checklist's weather, SnowRaven hands you a block to paste into your comment, and that block comes home in your next backup. Until now the app did two things with it: notice it was there, and hide it. There is now a Weather section on the Statistics tab, just under Data Quality. It appears only if you have at least one readable block, it is built entirely from the backup you already loaded, and it makes no lookup at all, so it works offline and needs no key. It opens by telling you what it covers before it draws anything: how many of your checklists carry a readable weather block, and what fraction of your birding that is. Your outings by weather distributes them by the sky in the block, by temperature, by wind, and by day versus night. Each axis states its own denominator, because a block can record a temperature and no wind. A band you have never birded in is drawn as a zero rather than dropped. Species and time out, by weather gives the average number of species per checklist in each band with the same bands' average time out beside it. That pairing is the whole point: weather changes how long you stay out, so a lower species count can be the weather or it can be the outing, and now you can see both. A band averages only once it has eight checklists, and below that it shows its count and refuses to average. One species, its weather lets you pick a bird and see the skies and temperatures you have it on. Each bar is that bird's own record, scaled so its biggest band fills the track, which is what makes a bird you have seen a handful of times readable at all. Every row gives the count and its share of the bird's records, then, quieter beside it, the same band's share of all your outings. That second figure is doing real work: a chart of where a bird turned up also reflects when you were out, and having both on the row lets you see which is which. It never predicts, recommends or ranks. There is no advice about good birding weather, no leaderboard of birds by rain, and no statistical inference anywhere in it.

Named Birds now shows you when you saw each bird, not just how many times. Open a bird's card and its sightings are laid out in time, one mark for each date; below the list, a second strip gives every named bird a labelled lane on a shared axis, so you can see at a glance which birds you were following when. One control beside Sort chooses what the timelines run to: the last sighting, or today, so the gap since you last saw a bird becomes visible as empty space. Press anywhere along a strip to select the nearest sighting and read its date and place; arrow keys step through them one at a time. The elapsed time on a named bird's card was wrong and has been fixed. It threw away the remainder instead of rounding, so anything from two months to one day short of three months read as 2 mos., and its month arithmetic assumed every month is thirty days, which made the 27th of February to the 1st of March read as 4 days instead of 2. It is now counted in real days, and each card says which two dates it is measuring rather than leaving you to guess. Search: press Cmd-K or Ctrl-K, or use the Search control in the navigation, to jump straight to any tab or to any bird in your own eBird backup. It searches common and scientific names at once, works offline, and needs no key. Statistics now does its arithmetic on a thread of its own, so the window stays responsive while it works. Every figure, list and chart is identical to before. On a slower device the longest unbroken pause on a first visit is roughly halved. A large Macaulay Library export no longer locks up the window while it loads, and an export that cannot be read now says so instead of waiting. Files you add in Settings are checked before they are saved. A file that is not the export for that slot, or one larger than 50 MB, is turned away on the spot and names the slot it belongs in. Whatever was already saved stays exactly as it was. The Map Explorer's filters sidebar no longer holds on to the Tab key once you rotate your phone to landscape, and the Calendar's day details box keeps the keyboard inside it by construction.

The Map Explorer moves up. On a phone the bar along the bottom now holds Weather, Statistics, Map Explorer and Species Detail, so the map is one tap away instead of behind More. If you have arranged your tabs yourself, nothing moves. Map popups can be closed from the keyboard. The small x in the corner of a breeding-atlas, county, Media Targets, Nearby Lifers or sighting popup is now drawn by SnowRaven rather than by the map library, so the Tab key reaches it and Enter or Space closes it. It also has a name a screen reader can read, where before there was none. The marks beside a bird's name stay visible when their icons cannot load. Offline, or behind a content blocker, the eBird and Birds of the World marks used to vanish and leave a gap you could press without seeing. A plain stand-in symbol now takes their place, and the real icon returns when it arrives. Also included, from the release before this one: Species Detail has a Show escapees switch, so its species count reads the same as the Statistics headline. It is off by default and uses the answer Statistics already worked out on this device, so the tab asks eBird nothing of its own. Every boxed switch in the app now responds to the pointer.

This update covers three releases since the last one on the App Store. Navigation, rebuilt. Eleven tabs had outgrown the strip across the top of the window, which swapped itself for a single scrolling list at most sizes. There is now one navigation that changes shape with the room it has: a list down the side with names, a narrow strip of icons when there is less room, and on iPhone a bar along the bottom holding your first four tabs with a More button for the rest. Which one you get follows the width actually available, so an iPad in portrait and one in landscape are treated differently for the same reason. Your own tab order decides all of it and the tabs you have hidden stay hidden, so the four on the phone bar are simply the first four you have chosen to show. On the Map Explorer the navigation steps down to icons by itself once the map's own panel would leave too little room, and steps back when you close it. The name and tagline move into the top of the side list, which gives every tab back the strip's worth of height at the top of the window. The keyboard reaches everything. Every button and every link in the app can now be reached with the Tab key on iPhone and iPad. Before, the jump links and chart toggles on Statistics, every sortable column heading on Multimedia and Breeding Codes, every link out to eBird and the Macaulay Library, and the buttons in every map's corner were all skipped, including the Skip to main content link meant to come first of everything. The Calendar's day box now keeps the keyboard inside it instead of losing it to the page behind. Maps can fill the window. Species Detail's Sighting Locations map, the Statistics Geographic Stats map and the map on a Named Birds card each have a fullscreen button now. The map you are already looking at fills the window, keeping the same pins, the same centre and zoom, and whatever you had open. Honest answers when a file will not load. A saved eBird backup or Macaulay Library export that cannot be read now says so and points at the right slot in Settings, instead of asking you to import a file you already have or showing a list with nothing in it.
