SnowRaven 1.0.28 keeps every Missing Weather action tied to the correct checklist. Opening a checklist, opening its comment page, and Copy weather & go now keep that row's validated identity after the list is reordered, widened, or paged, instead of sometimes collapsing onto one checklist until SnowRaven restarts.

SnowRaven 1.0.27 improves accuracy, security, accessibility, and release reliability. • Species Detail now counts distinct checklists, so subspecies rows cannot inflate sightings or push Frequency above 100%. • Birding Stats safely handles species names such as constructor, toString, and __proto__ without creating malformed links. • Documentation keeps keyboard focus while open, Escape closes only the topmost overlay, and focus returns to its opener. • The website Weather screenshot now includes complete Weather and Tide results, and its image tooling is updated to Sharp 0.35.4. • Responsive tests now activate only the exact phone media query they intend.

SnowRaven 1.0.24 improves accessibility and upload reliability. • Every app-owned button and link now uses one shared keyboard-accessibility foundation. Intentional tab-order exceptions remain explicit and automatically guarded. • Repeated invalid or oversized file selections are now announced reliably by assistive technology. • Upload-size messages now derive from the enforced 50 MB limit, so the visible message and server rule cannot drift apart. • At the largest text size, phone headers and narrow weather labels now stay within the screen across platform font differences. • The accessibility statement now describes the durable keyboard-order rule without copying a test-owned exception count.

SnowRaven finally reads the weather blocks it has been writing. Every time you look up a checklist's weather, SnowRaven hands you a block to paste into your comment, and that block comes home in your next backup. Until now the app did two things with it: notice it was there, and hide it. There is now a Weather section on the Statistics tab, just under Data Quality. It appears only if you have at least one readable block, it is built entirely from the backup you already loaded, and it makes no lookup at all, so it works offline and needs no key. It opens by telling you what it covers before it draws anything: how many of your checklists carry a readable weather block, and what fraction of your birding that is. Your outings by weather distributes them by the sky in the block, by temperature, by wind, and by day versus night. Each axis states its own denominator, because a block can record a temperature and no wind. A band you have never birded in is drawn as a zero rather than dropped. Species and time out, by weather gives the average number of species per checklist in each band with the same bands' average time out beside it. That pairing is the whole point: weather changes how long you stay out, so a lower species count can be the weather or it can be the outing, and now you can see both. A band averages only once it has eight checklists, and below that it shows its count and refuses to average. One species, its weather lets you pick a bird and see the skies and temperatures you have it on. Each bar is that bird's own record, scaled so its biggest band fills the track, which is what makes a bird you have seen a handful of times readable at all. Every row gives the count and its share of the bird's records, then, quieter beside it, the same band's share of all your outings. That second figure is doing real work: a chart of where a bird turned up also reflects when you were out, and having both on the row lets you see which is which. It never predicts, recommends or ranks. There is no advice about good birding weather, no leaderboard of birds by rain, and no statistical inference anywhere in it.

Named Birds now shows you when you saw each bird, not just how many times. Open a bird's card and its sightings are laid out in time, one mark for each date; below the list, a second strip gives every named bird a labelled lane on a shared axis, so you can see at a glance which birds you were following when. One control beside Sort chooses what the timelines run to: the last sighting, or today, so the gap since you last saw a bird becomes visible as empty space. Press anywhere along a strip to select the nearest sighting and read its date and place; arrow keys step through them one at a time. The elapsed time on a named bird's card was wrong and has been fixed. It threw away the remainder instead of rounding, so anything from two months to one day short of three months read as 2 mos., and its month arithmetic assumed every month is thirty days, which made the 27th of February to the 1st of March read as 4 days instead of 2. It is now counted in real days, and each card says which two dates it is measuring rather than leaving you to guess. Search: press Cmd-K or Ctrl-K, or use the Search control in the navigation, to jump straight to any tab or to any bird in your own eBird backup. It searches common and scientific names at once, works offline, and needs no key. Statistics now does its arithmetic on a thread of its own, so the window stays responsive while it works. Every figure, list and chart is identical to before. On a slower device the longest unbroken pause on a first visit is roughly halved. A large Macaulay Library export no longer locks up the window while it loads, and an export that cannot be read now says so instead of waiting. Files you add in Settings are checked before they are saved. A file that is not the export for that slot, or one larger than 50 MB, is turned away on the spot and names the slot it belongs in. Whatever was already saved stays exactly as it was. The Map Explorer's filters sidebar no longer holds on to the Tab key once you rotate your phone to landscape, and the Calendar's day details box keeps the keyboard inside it by construction.

The Map Explorer moves up. On a phone the bar along the bottom now holds Weather, Statistics, Map Explorer and Species Detail, so the map is one tap away instead of behind More. If you have arranged your tabs yourself, nothing moves. Map popups can be closed from the keyboard. The small x in the corner of a breeding-atlas, county, Media Targets, Nearby Lifers or sighting popup is now drawn by SnowRaven rather than by the map library, so the Tab key reaches it and Enter or Space closes it. It also has a name a screen reader can read, where before there was none. The marks beside a bird's name stay visible when their icons cannot load. Offline, or behind a content blocker, the eBird and Birds of the World marks used to vanish and leave a gap you could press without seeing. A plain stand-in symbol now takes their place, and the real icon returns when it arrives. Also included, from the release before this one: Species Detail has a Show escapees switch, so its species count reads the same as the Statistics headline. It is off by default and uses the answer Statistics already worked out on this device, so the tab asks eBird nothing of its own. Every boxed switch in the app now responds to the pointer.

This update covers three releases since the last one on the App Store. Navigation, rebuilt. Eleven tabs had outgrown the strip across the top of the window, which swapped itself for a single scrolling list at most sizes. There is now one navigation that changes shape with the room it has: a list down the side with names, a narrow strip of icons when there is less room, and on iPhone a bar along the bottom holding your first four tabs with a More button for the rest. Which one you get follows the width actually available, so an iPad in portrait and one in landscape are treated differently for the same reason. Your own tab order decides all of it and the tabs you have hidden stay hidden, so the four on the phone bar are simply the first four you have chosen to show. On the Map Explorer the navigation steps down to icons by itself once the map's own panel would leave too little room, and steps back when you close it. The name and tagline move into the top of the side list, which gives every tab back the strip's worth of height at the top of the window. The keyboard reaches everything. Every button and every link in the app can now be reached with the Tab key on iPhone and iPad. Before, the jump links and chart toggles on Statistics, every sortable column heading on Multimedia and Breeding Codes, every link out to eBird and the Macaulay Library, and the buttons in every map's corner were all skipped, including the Skip to main content link meant to come first of everything. The Calendar's day box now keeps the keyboard inside it instead of losing it to the page behind. Maps can fill the window. Species Detail's Sighting Locations map, the Statistics Geographic Stats map and the map on a Named Birds card each have a fullscreen button now. The map you are already looking at fills the window, keeping the same pins, the same centre and zoom, and whatever you had open. Honest answers when a file will not load. A saved eBird backup or Macaulay Library export that cannot be read now says so and points at the right slot in Settings, instead of asking you to import a file you already have or showing a list with nothing in it.

A backup that failed to load no longer leaves the app spinning forever. A very large eBird backup whose background reading died quietly could leave the app waiting for an answer that was never coming: the spinner never stopped, and because every tab shares that one reading of your file, every other tab that uses your observations was stuck too for the rest of the session. A reading that dies is now always noticed, the tab says it could not load your backup instead of spinning, and a later attempt starts fresh rather than joining the dead one. Clearing your eBird backup really clears it. Clearing the file in Settings removed the file but left behind the things worked out from it: which of your checklists had been answered about escaped birds, the record of which checklists belong to projects, which counties you have birded, and the saved weather and tide readings for your checklists. All of that now goes with the file, from every place a clear can happen, including a clear that arrives from another device. Loading a newer export is unchanged and still keeps your answers. Open tabs notice the clear straight away rather than showing the old data until the next launch. Honest messages when a saved file will not load. A stored file that could not be read used to send you to the setup screen, telling you to upload a backup you already had. Every tab that reads your data now says what actually happened, and names the file and where to fix it.

Very large eBird backups now load without running out of memory. Reading a backup used to build a complete second copy of the file in memory before turning any of it into observations, and that copy was roughly nineteen times the size of the file itself. The file is now read a row at a time, so the extra copy never exists: an export large enough to reliably fail before now loads to completion, and the app needs roughly a fifth of the memory to do it. Two smaller savings come with it. The app no longer holds the entire text of your backup in memory for the whole session just to answer one question about its first line, and one internal store of recent map lookups now keeps a fixed number of entries instead of growing for as long as the app is open. What the app shows you is identical in every case.
