When the TV's display connects, your Mac wakes or the TV turns on, the sound output switches to the TV, and it goes back to the previous output when the TV goes away. If you pick another output while the TV is connected, TV Companion leaves your choice alone until the TV is plugged in again. Find it in Settings > General > Volume.
