Knockoff: Shopping Filter
Hide fake & junk brands
Free
Amazon is flooded with trademark-squat "brands": random strings like SZHLUX, HORUSDY, and LATTOOK, registered at the USPTO purely to unlock Amazon Brand Registry. They sell commodity goods with no company, no warranty, and no reputation behind them.
Knockoff is a Safari extension that appraises every listing's brand right in your Amazon search results and hides, dims, or labels the junk, so what's left is brands with a reputation to lose. Works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Featured in Fast Company, Gizmodo, 404 Media, PC Gamer, Yahoo, and Lifehacker.
HOW IT WORKS
• Every brand is checked against a curated register of established brands, refreshed daily.
• Unknown names are scored on the linguistic signature of pseudo-brands: all-caps squat-length strings, vanishing vowels, unpronounceable consonant runs.
• Your allowlist and blocklist override everything.
FEATURES
• Hide, dim, or label flagged listings, with a one-click reveal.
• Optionally hide Amazon's paid "Sponsored" listings too (off by default).
• Three filter levels: Relaxed, Standard, Strict.
• Trust or block any brand in one click, right from the results.
• One-click misclassification reporting that improves the shared lists for everyone.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Knockoff works only on Amazon pages. It has no access to your browsing history and never sees the other sites you visit. The brand appraisal runs locally on your device. No accounts, no profiles, nothing tied to you.
Two features send data. Both are on by default, and both can be switched off in settings: seller country sends seller IDs, so it can show where a seller is based; and Help pick US alternatives sends the product pages you open, so we know which products people want US alternatives for. A stored row records that a product was viewed N times, never who viewed it. Never sent: your searches, your orders, or anything you type into a page. Reports stay opt-in and anonymous. Full detail: knockoff.co/privacy
Free. Works on 23 Amazon marketplaces worldwide, including amazon.com, .ca, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .co.jp, .in, and .com.au.
To turn it on: enable Knockoff in Safari's Extensions settings and allow it on Amazon. Search as usual, and the junk brands drop out.
Ratings & Reviews
New: Knockoff now filters Amazon's Deals, Best Sellers, and New Releases pages, plus the "related items" carousels on product and home pages — not just search and browse results.
New: a "Find US alternatives" button on product pages opens a list of similar listings whose seller we can name, with US sellers flagged. To pick which products are worth covering, Knockoff reports the products you open — the product, never who was looking. On by default; turn it off with "Help pick US alternatives" in settings.
New: listings now show a small flag for where the seller is based, right on the product image in search results and on the product page, so you can see a listing's origin at a glance. Flags are display-only and never change what Knockoff filters. On by default; you can turn them off in settings.
New: when Knockoff doesn't recognize a seller yet, it shows a "Where from?" chip — opening the seller page adds their country to a community-built map that every install benefits from, and the countries you help map fill in a personal passport. Only seller IDs and countries are ever sent, never anything about you, your search, or the products.
Improved: the seller country chip is now clickable everywhere. A resolved country used to be a dead label; both it and "Where from?" now open the seller's Amazon profile, where you can check the claim for yourself.
Improved: the community seller map now reads the whole business-identity block Amazon already publishes on a seller's profile page (registered name, address and contact details, disclosed there under marketplace-transparency laws). Only the seller's public details are contributed, never anything about you. Revisiting a seller page now refreshes what we hold, so a seller that moves gets noticed.
Fixed: the seller-map contribution stats could show a community total smaller than your own count. The two numbers now count the same thing.
Plus under-the-hood reliability and anti-abuse hardening for the community seller map.
