The best map is often bolted to a post at the trailhead. Photograph it, pin two points, and walk it offline with your live position. No account, no subscription. The best map of a place is usually the one bolted to a post at the trailhead. Hand-painted, a little sun-faded, drawn by someone who actually knows the ground. You photograph it, walk off, reach the first fork, and open the photo to find out it's just a photo. It has no idea where you are. So you guess. Unlost puts your live position on that photo. 1. Photograph the map – any board, sign, or paper map. 2. Pin two points – tap a spot on your photo, then the same spot on Apple Maps. Twice. 3. Walk it – your position moves across the photographed map as you go. No route to draw, no download, no account. WORKS ON THE MAPS NO BIG APP HAS HEARD OF - National and state park boards - The ranger-station leaflet and the nature-reserve loop - Ski pistes, bike parks, disc golf, campgrounds - Festivals, campuses, botanical gardens - Anywhere the only decent map is on a signpost OFF-GRID ON PURPOSE Set it up while you still have signal, pinning the two points pulls from Apple Maps, then drop off the grid for the rest of the walk. Trees, valleys, dead zones, the good kind of nowhere. Your position keeps updating with no connection at all. PRIVATE, PLAINLY App Privacy label: Data Not Collected. Not "we take your privacy seriously." Your photos, your maps, and your position never leave your phone. No account, no analytics, no servers of ours to send them to. YOURS ONCE, THEN LEFT ALONE One price, paid once. No subscription, no upsell, no monthly email asking if you're still there. And no feed, no notifications, no streaks. Unlost does its job and gets out of your way. A small tool you own, that wants less of your time, not more. NOT FOR EVERYONE If you want turn-by-turn directions read aloud on the road, that's a different app. If you want to pre-download an entire mountain range, also a different app. Unlost does one thing: it puts you on a map you photographed. ONE HONEST NOTE Unlost lines a photo up to the real world as closely as two points allow. It's a genuinely good way to stay oriented, but it isn't a survey-grade topographic map, and your position is only as accurate as the points you pinned. Use it as a guide, carry proper navigation in serious terrain, and think for yourself out there. Photograph a map. Pin two points. Stay unlost.
