Dosis! makes everyday ionising radiation tangible – factual, multilingual and clutter-free.
• Ambient dose: Shows the current dose rate of the nearest official monitoring station (Germany: BfS ODL-Info; Switzerland: NADAM/NAZ). Your location is used on-device only and never transmitted.
• Flight dose: Estimates the effective dose of a flight from origin, destination, cruise altitude and travel month (solar cycle) – with intuitive comparisons (panoramic X-ray, days of natural radiation, hours on Guarapari beach, minutes in the Gastein radon gallery).
• Food: Converts the radiation dose of 40+ foods into microsieverts and "banana equivalents" (potassium-40 and others).
• Radiation hotspots: Places with extraordinary radiation – natural hotspots (Guarapari, Ramsar), nuclear sites (Chernobyl, Fukushima, Mayak), space (ISS, Moon, Mars) and historical uses (shoe-fitting fluoroscope, radium dials and more) – with dose values, maps, photos and sources.
• Learn: short, accessible articles – What is background radiation? Doses in medicine (with a table from dental X-ray to CT), the story of the banana equivalent dose, why food is radioactive, mineral water and infants.
• Works worldwide: outside Germany and Switzerland the app shows a clearly labelled physical estimate (per UNSCEAR) instead of a measurement.
• Topographic maps with country borders and capitals – for your location, every flight route and every radiation hotspot.
