Your flight's Lock Screen card now switches to in-flight progress by itself at take-off — even in flight mode, with no signal — showing time to go and when you land. And if you're offline, the flight screen now says so and keeps the last update it had.

Flight statuses are now always in plain words, and a status that arrives too early to be true — like a gate shown as closed hours before departure — is no longer shown.

See how long each flight is, and how far ahead or behind home the clocks are where you're going. Airline names are up to date — and older flights keep the name their airline had at the time.

See your flight's progress on your Lock Screen, from take-off to landing. Get a reminder on the day to put your flight there. Find out when your plane first flew, discover a few facts about each flight and destination, and see which landmarks you might spot from each side of the plane.

Gates, properly. Your gate shows on your flights list on the day, updates if it changes, and never disappears from your Lock Screen. At airports that don't publish gates, like Gatwick and Heathrow, add the gate from the departures board and everyone tracking your flight gets it straight away. Plus check-in desks, baggage belts and a Baggage reclaim row on the flight screen.

Fixes a crash shortly after opening the app. Live flight status is more accurate: delays, cancellations and landings now read the same in your list, on the flight screen, on the Lock Screen and in the widget, and a flight that has landed shows when it actually came down. Before a gate is announced, Flown now shows the gate your flight usually leaves from, when its recent history points to one.

Follow the people you're meeting. • Friends & Family: add somebody else's flight and follow it live — their gate, delays and when they actually land — without it counting as your own travel. It stays out of your map, your countries and your stats. • Share a flight with one link. It opens Flown straight on that flight for anyone who has it, and a page describing it for anyone who doesn't. • The map knows where you've been. Countries you've visited now stand out clearly, with real coastlines and the islands that were missing — Santorini, Mauritius, Malta and hundreds more. Flying to Barcelona no longer colours in the Canaries. • Times say which airport's clock they're on, so a two-timezone route can't be misread. • A delayed flight stays under Flying until it actually lands, keeps its Lock Screen card, and shows when it's really expected.

Compensation, without paying to find out. Flown works out what a delayed UK or EU flight owes you — but until now you could only see that after subscribing. Now every flight you've taken shows whether its route is covered and what a qualifying delay would be worth, before you decide anything. • On any flight you've flown, see the scheme that covers it and the maximum per passenger. • After importing your calendar, Flown tells you how many of your flights are on covered routes. • Flown Pro then checks the actual arrival times and works out what you're owed.

Calendar import is far more accurate. • Flown now reads the location on each calendar event, so it knows which London airport you actually flew from — Gatwick, Stansted or Heathrow, not just "London". • City names that exist in more than one country — Birmingham, Valencia, Santiago, Naples — are now settled by the other end of your route. • Round trips that come home to a different airport than they left from are reconciled automatically. • Scanning a large calendar is around 15 times faster. Also in this release: • Flown offers to set your home airport, based on where you fly from most. • Flights within your own country now count towards your map. Only your home city is excluded, so a trip to Edinburgh counts. • Routes are saved as they are found, so nothing is lost if you close the app mid-import.

Flown on your Home Screen. • A new widget shows your next flight and the countdown to it — and between trips, the countries and flights you've collected so far. • Share a flight with whoever's meeting you at the other end. • Ask Siri when your next flight is, or how many countries you've visited. • A flight added by hand now checks its departure time against live schedules and corrects it, so the time you see is the time you'll fly.

Fixes to how flight times are shown. • Every time now appears in its own airport's local time. A flight landing after midnight no longer reads in the wrong hour, or on the wrong day. • Flight detail now shows the scheduled time and what actually happened, each labelled, so a delay is clear at a glance. • A flight that had landed could still show "En route". Fixed. • Flights departing just after midnight no longer go missing when you browse a day's departures.

Track a flight from your Lock Screen. Start tracking and Flown keeps your flight in front of you — boarding, gate closed, en route, landing — updating on its own, without opening the app. When you land it shows your arrival gate and baggage reclaim belt, then clears itself. Calendar import is now instant. Your flights appear straight away instead of waiting on route look-ups, and Flown fills in the routes in the background while you carry on. If you have years of flights in your calendar, this is the difference between minutes and seconds.

Trips Flown now groups your flights into journeys automatically. Open the Trips view on your Flights tab to relive each one: its full route, distance flown, countries visited and days away. Know when you're owed money When a flight lands 3 or more hours late in the UK or EU, you may be able to claim £220 to £520 under UK261. Airlines don't tell you. Flown now does, with a link to claim. Track record Before you fly, see how a flight has actually behaved: how often it runs late, by how much, and the terminal it usually leaves from.
