Darts Scoreboard Pro
Score 501, cricket, checkout
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
A chalkboard, not a dashboard. Built by someone who plays himself: free scoring, no account, no ads. The route to the checkout is up before you start counting.
You're at the oche with 141 left, working out in your head which three darts will do it. I know that feeling. That's why I built this app: it keeps score while you play and chalks up the route to the checkout as soon as there is one.
And it looks like the chalkboard in your bar, because that's what it is. Chalk on slate, big numbers, nothing shiny, nothing flashing. No dashboard, no camera that can't see a thing in bar lighting. Just what you need at the board, at a size you can read from the line.
You enter the scores however you like: the whole visit at once, one dart at a time, or by tapping the board itself. If you mistype, you'll notice straight away — three darts can't make 179, so the app won't take it. And if you go bust, it says so before the next dart flies.
The caller reads out the scores the way you hear them on TV. It calls the winning set too. The display is big enough to read from the oche.
You can play 301, 501 and 701 with the usual rules for starting and finishing. Cricket for two players or more, counted dart by dart. Up to eight players on one board. And when nobody's around, the computer plays you, at five levels.
After the leg you see how you really played: how many doubles went in, which double you keep getting stuck on, your three-dart average and how often you checked out. There's a picture of the board too, showing where your darts landed. Where the app doesn't know something, it writes nothing. No tidy zeros that mean nothing.
For practice there are four games: Bob's 27, Around the Clock, Shanghai and Checkout 121.
On the iPad everything runs in landscape. Scoreboard and keypad sit side by side, the route to the checkout is readable from six feet away, and the board is large. The iPad usually hangs next to the dartboard anyway.
Downloading and scoring are free, and they stay that way. Your first five games come with everything. After that, the computer opponent, the four practice games and the statistics come with Darts Scoreboard Pro, a yearly subscription. It renews automatically and you can cancel it any time in your Apple Account settings. Anyone who had the app before the subscription keeps everything.
There are no ads, no account and no sign-up. The app collects no data — everything stays on your device.
I built it for my own Tuesday nights. No agency, no app builder. If something's missing, tell me, and I'll put it in.

New icon: a tally in chalk, and the fifth stroke is a dart. You'll spot it on your home screen at a glance. The launch screen and the App Store pictures now match the app: chalk on slate.
Since 3.7.0: the app is a chalkboard. Chalk on slate, like in the bar — and everything is bigger: the keys, the numbers, the board. On iPhone the board fills the width, triples and doubles are wide enough for a finger. No key you have to hunt for, no text you can't read from the oche.
Darts Scoreboard Pro: scoring stays free — X01 and Cricket, every input mode, the caller, the checkout routes. Your first five games come with everything; after that, the computer opponent, practice games and statistics come with a yearly subscription. If you already had the app, you keep everything, without paying.
Plus two practice games — and you can lose both.
Shanghai. Seven rounds, and the round number is the target: in round 1 only the 1 counts, in round 7 only the 7. Hit single, double and triple of the same target in one round and you've thrown Shanghai — you win there and then, whatever the score. The screen tells you each round whether it's still on and what's missing.
Checkout 121. A ladder: check out 61, then 62, then 63, all the way up to 121. Nine darts at each finish, so three visits. The route to the checkout is shown, same as in a game. The top of the ladder is where the finishes live that nobody practices and everybody needs.
Both sit under Practice, next to Around the Clock and Bob's 27.
