"I feel nauseous."
That's what the chat app's built-in translator gave me. My girlfriend - now my wife - had sent something in Vietnamese right after a date, and I spent the next few minutes worried she'd eaten something bad.
The translation was accurate. I still misunderstood her. She was carsick, on her way home.
That gap - between what a sentence says and what a person means - is the whole problem. Translators are getting very good at accuracy. They are not getting better at being understood.
That night I built a workaround with iPhone Shortcuts: run her Vietnamese through English first, then into Korean. The intent held. English, it turns out, is unusually good at carrying meaning between two languages that don't share one.
BriSense is that workaround, built properly.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Your language > English
2. English > their language
3. English > back to your language
Step 3 is the one most translators don't give you. Before you send anything, you see your own message translated back. If it isn't what you meant, you'll know - while you can still fix it.
BUILT TO PREVENT MISUNDERSTANDING

Partner, spouse, parent, child, manager, client, friend. The same sentence should not sound the same to your boss and to your girlfriend - and here it doesn't.
■ Tell it how you want to sound
Formal, casual, polite, warm, or firm. Choose the register before you send, not after they've already read it the wrong way.
■ Choose from up to 3 versions
Each carries a different tone. Pick the one that sounds like you actually sound.
■ Cultural notes
Short warnings about phrasing that lands differently over there than it does here. The things nobody tells you until after.
■ Key word explanations
Important words broken out in three columns - their language, English, yours - with pronunciation and audio, so you learn as you go.
