PlateCost - Food Cost

Cost calculator in plain words

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

PlateCost is the fastest way for chefs to cost a dish. Paste your supplier's price list — or upload a PDF, Excel or CSV — and your whole ingredient library gets priced in one go. Type your ingredients in plain kitchen language and PlateCost does the math: the grams, the cost per portion, the foodcost percentage and your margin — instantly. • Price list import — Paste a price list or upload a PDF, Excel or CSV file. The AI reads it, matches your ingredients and updates every price in one tap — big jumps get flagged for review first. • Cost-sheet import — Upload your old cost-price Excel (or Word, PDF or a photo of it) and bring in dishes, preps and prices at once. • Smart units — Don't know the weight of "1 tbsp of honey" or "1 slice of tomato"? The AI helper weighs it, shows its reasoning, and remembers it for next time. • Foodcost traffic light — Green under 30%, orange 30–35%, red over 35% (adjustable). See at a glance which dishes eat your margin. • One ingredient list, one price — Change a price once and every dish that uses it recalculates automatically. • Sub-recipes — Build a stock or a sauce once and reuse it; its cost flows through to every dish. • Allergens — Get an allergen suggestion per ingredient. • Available in 10 languages, from English to Japanese. • Works offline — Your recipes stay on your device. No account required. • Backup — Export your whole book to one file, or restore an earlier version. Free for everyone. PlateCost Pro (optional) syncs your recipes and prices across devices — try it free for 14 days. PlateCost is a calculator, not an ERP: no stock, no dashboards, no clutter — just the fastest cost sheet in the kitchen. New in 1.8: paste or photograph a recipe into an open dish or prep — PlateCost adds the ingredient lines with their cost. A sub-recipe, like a sauce, can be made into its own prep right away. You see the cost up front: free gives you 5 AI imports, shared between cost sheets and recipes. Quantities are now saved just as safely as prices: nothing changes silently from a stray keystroke, and the screen keeps calculating as you type. On a laptop, Sous now sits next to your cost sheet instead of over it. An example dish you've changed is now simply yours: the 'Example' label disappears, and cleaning up leaves it alone. Also: undoing an ingredient swap now only reverts the swap, not your other changes.
