Picture me (Alan, hello) on the runway, firing off a mile-long wall of text to a friend, every single place I'd been in a city with zero context.
As I rained recommendations upon them, I realized there had to be another way! And from that Takeaway was born!
Takeaway curates those behemoth notes app lists down to what you actually want someone to check out. Follow your friends, read their Takeaways, add what looks fun to your trip, and plan it together. When you get home, stamp your trip with your Top 5 recommendations, things to do, neighborhoods, food, cafes, nightlife, even the places to skip, and share your postcard anywhere.
HOW IT WORKS
1) Plan a trip, with dates (Planned) or without (Someday).
2) Search a city and see where your friends have been. Like their Top 5s? Add any of them to your trip's hitlist, your running list of everything you want to see, do, and eat.
3) Invite everyone coming along. They add their own hitlist picks too.
4) As the trip nears, your hitlist grows. Map your days out in the plan section (now with a sweet map).
5) On the trip, check off what you actually did, and add memorable spots on the fly for everyone to remember.
6) Have the time of your collective lives.
7) Heading home? Killing time at the airport, still glowing? Open Takeaway, relive the memories, and stamp your trip. You and your crew rank your Top 5 favorites per category, add a short Takeaway on what made the trip, and boom, a stamped postcard to share here, on social, over text, wherever.
A few more things:
- Debate everyone else's Top 5s, half the fun.
- A Memories section only your trip members can see: inside jokes, bits, the strange stuff you saw.
- Earn seals for your travels.
Already been somewhere? Takeaway can read your camera roll metadata to create half the trip for you, just add your Takeaway and Top 5s. You can also drop your old notes into the planning phase and Takeaway builds your hitlist automatically. Pick your favorites, add a line on why you loved it, and stamp away. Same flow, no planning required, and a fun trip down memory lane.
The vision: enough Takeaways that every city has a Top 5 driven by real people, your people, not biased blogs or AI. Everyone has a favorite travel rec. Let's not lose them.
