Every HOA gets a rating on a five-tier vibe scale, from super chill to hostile. Where it lands comes down to how heavy the rulebook is, how hard it's enforced, and how nasty the board gets about enforcing it. And it comes from everyone around the block weighing in, so you get a fair sense of what living there is actually like.
Check where an HOA stands on the things that actually start fights, from backyard chickens and RV parking to solar panels, custom paint, and yard signs. These are the dealbreakers for a lot of people, so we mark each one allowed, conditional, or banned, straight from the residents who live with the rule.
