Headroom 1.1.22 — Making the dictation you already had easier to find • Tap the mic on the keyboard and what you say is typed straight into the Mac. This has always worked, but the key is the same size as every other one and people were missing it — so the in-app guide and the opening tour now say where to look.

Headroom 1.1.21 — The app now speaks Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Korean • The whole app — the connection list, the how-to-use guide, the startup tour — now follows your device's language when it's set to Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese or Korean. • Siri voice commands remain Japanese and English only for now.

Headroom 1.1.20 — Ask Siri, circle to zoom, a new-look control bar • Siri can drive Headroom now. "Connect to the study PC with Headroom" and "Connect to the last PC with Headroom" get you in; once you are connected, zoom in, zoom out, fit to screen, scroll, type text and disconnect all work by voice. Every phrase is listed in the in-app guide. • The control bar has a new "circle to zoom" button. Tap it, draw around part of the screen, and that area fills the view. It switches itself off after one use. • On iOS 26 and later the control bar picks up the system's new material. Earlier versions of iOS keep the bar exactly as it was.

Headroom 1.1.0 — A short introduction, a control bar you can actually hit, and a window that remembers its size • A short introduction now appears the first time you open the app, and the "?" button in the connection list brings it back whenever you want it. • On iPhone the control bar sat too close to the bottom edge, so reaching for a key meant hitting the home bar instead. It now sits clear of it. • Resize the window on a Mac and the next session with that Mac opens the same size. Kept per remote, so a Mac mini and a MacBook can each have their own. • A key button has been added to the control bar. When the remote Mac is showing its lock screen, tapping it types the login password and presses return for you — only when you tap, never automatically. It is disabled until a password has been entered. • A connection's details now include an optional field for the remote Mac's login password. Once entered it is stored securely, so you are not asked for it the next time you connect — and it is what the key button types. • The guide now covers the ⇤ ⇥ ⇡ ⇣ buttons that move the view, and how they differ from the ← ↑ ↓ → buttons that send arrow keys to the Mac.

Headroom 1.0.9 — Fixed reconnecting after unlocking or returning from the background • Locking and unlocking your iPhone or iPad, or bringing the app back from the background, could show a "check your VNC password" error that had nothing to do with your password. This is now detected correctly, and the app retries automatically after a short pause. • Connection error messages have also been revised as part of this fix.

Headroom 1.0.8 — Buttons to move the view on a Mac, a Pro marker, purchase fixes • On a Mac, arrow buttons in the control bar now move the view up, down, left and right while you are zoomed in. Until now the only way was Option + scroll, which was easy to miss. The buttons stay hidden when the whole screen already fits. • With Pro, the control bar shows “Pro” during a session. • Fixed cancelling partway through a purchase sometimes being treated as an error. • When a purchase awaiting approval (Ask to Buy, for example) is approved, the screen now moves on by itself. Until now a completed purchase could still leave disconnecting as the only way out. • Fixed an error appearing when you cancelled the sign-in during Restore Purchases. • Updated the in-app guide, including what it takes to get something copied on this device over to the Mac (same Apple ID, and the two devices near each other).

Headroom 1.0.7 — A much better session on an iPhone • Connecting from an iPhone now shows the whole remote screen from the start. It used to open at full size, which on a phone meant seeing only the top-left corner of the Mac. • The control bar has been rebuilt for the iPhone: two rows in portrait so every key is visible, one slim row in landscape. The disconnect button can no longer end up off the edge of the screen. • The control bar now sits flush with the bottom of the screen, instead of drifting upward when you rotate the device or return to the app. • Opening the software keyboard no longer hides the control bar. The bar moves to just above the keyboard, so the key that closes it — and the disconnect button — stay within reach. • The control bar no longer overlaps the remote screen. Its top edge meets the bottom edge of the picture, so a text field or button at the very bottom of the remote Mac can be tapped. • When you have zoomed in, opening or closing the software keyboard and rotating the device now keep your zoom and position. They used to snap the picture back to the whole-screen view you started with, leaving you to zoom in again. • The bar's ⌘ ⌥ ⌃ ⇧ now apply to keys you press on the keyboard, not just to the bar's own buttons. Tap ⌘, press W, and ⌘W reaches the remote Mac — which is how to send shortcuts like ⌘W and ⌘Q that your own Mac would otherwise act on. • If your keyboard has no 英数/かな keys — a US layout, for example — the bar now offers buttons to switch the remote Mac's input mode. They stay hidden on keyboards that already have those keys.

Headroom 1.0.6 — Held modifier keys now reach the other side • You can hold ⇧ or ⌘ while you work: ⇧-click to extend a selection, ⌘-click to add to one, ⌥-drag to copy. The things you already do on a Mac now work on the Mac you are connected to. • Control-click arrives as a right click (added in 1.0.5), so context menus work from a one-button mouse or a trackpad without secondary click. • On a Mac, pinch zoom-out now stops at the size that fits the window, instead of shrinking the remote screen into a black border. • An auto-hidden Dock on the remote Mac now appears when you push the cursor against the bottom of the window — and the menu bar in full screen works the same way. • The free tier's connection time is now a daily total rather than a per-connection timer, and the session bar shows how much of today is left.

Headroom 1.0.5 — A much better keyboard and screen on a Mac • Typing Japanese from a Mac is now converted by the Mac you are connected to. The composition and the candidate list appear right in the remote screen, and the 英数/かな keys switch the input mode in the remote menu bar — the same way Apple's own screen sharing behaves. • Moving the cursor near the edge of the window now scrolls the remote screen that way, so you can reach the Dock and the far edges while zoomed in. • Scrolling now stops exactly at the edges of the remote screen instead of running past it into black. • The control bar no longer sits on top of the remote screen, so the Dock along the bottom is clickable. • Control-click now reaches the remote as a right click, so context menus work from a one-button mouse.

Headroom 1.0.4 — Japanese input and copy & paste rebuilt, Mac window support • You can now type both Japanese and half-width characters from a Mac. Conversion happens in your own Mac's input method, and only the finished text is sent — so the 英数 and かな keys work right where your hands are, and the remote no longer converts what you typed a second time. • Shift now produces capital letters. • Text copied on this device can be pasted onto the remote Mac, including Japanese and emoji. • Resizing the window on a Mac now scales the remote screen with it, and connecting opens the window in the remote screen's shape. • Tapping a saved connection shows its details instead of dialling straight away, so a mistyped address can finally be corrected — or the entry deleted. • A discovered Mac that failed last time now lets you check and fix its username and password before connecting again. • Fixed ⌘C / ⌘V not reaching the remote from a Mac.

Headroom 1.0.3 — Japanese input fix, smoother scrolling, clearer connection errors • With the software keyboard up, clicking a window on the Mac could put its input method back into kana, and half-width characters stopped working. The Mac is now held in Roman for as long as the keyboard is up — including right after connecting, and after a reconnect. • Scrolling the remote screen is smoother. Only the part of the screen that changed is received, and updates are handled together, so the Mac no longer appears to redraw in bands. • When Screen Sharing is off on the Mac, you get the steps to turn it on (System Settings → General → Sharing) and a Try Again button, instead of a bare error. • Failed connections now say what actually went wrong — the Mac not answering, sign-in refused, and so on. • VoiceOver now names the remote screen and describes how to control it.

Headroom 1.0.2 — Japanese input, two-finger scrolling, clipboard sharing, Wake-on-LAN • Two-finger drag now scrolls the remote screen. It used to pan the view instead, so the thing you wanted to scroll barely moved. Scrolling now keeps up with your fingers, and while two fingers are down the view itself stays put. • Redrawing during a scroll is smoother. Only the part of the screen that actually changed is uploaded now, so the Mac no longer appears to repaint in bands. • Japanese is converted on the iPad and only the finished text is sent to the Mac. If the Mac was left in kana mode it would convert that text again — and turn typed ASCII into kana — so raising the software keyboard now switches the Mac's input to Roman automatically. • On a Mac, the 英数 and かな keys on your keyboard now reach the remote, so the Mac you are connected to does the converting. (A Mac has no software keyboard, so the keyboard button is hidden there.) • When the screen was zoomed in, the spot you were typing into could end up hidden behind the keyboard. Raising the keyboard now scrolls that spot back into view. • Added a paste button (⌘V) to the control bar, so a screenshot copied on the iPad can go straight onto the Mac (with Universal Clipboard on the same Apple ID). It stays disabled when there is nothing to paste. • Slimmed the control bar on iPhone, leaving more room for the Mac's screen. • Text copied on the Mac now lands on this device's clipboard (plain text only). Going the other way is what the ⌘V button is for. • With Headroom Pro, the launch screen now reads "Headroom Pro". • Wake a sleeping Mac from the list (Wake-on-LAN) — save its MAC address with the connection, then swipe right. • Added an option for relative, trackpad-style pointer movement, under Settings in the how-to sheet.

Headroom 1.0.1 — bug fixes • On iPad, the remote screen now moves up when the software keyboard appears. Previously the bottom of the screen stayed hidden behind the keyboard. • Returning to Headroom from another app now reconnects automatically. Previously the screen could look frozen and stop responding to touches.
