Every other noise app loops a recording. After twenty minutes your brain finds the seam. This one generates the sound as you listen, so there is no seam to find. The noise is generated as you listen. It has never been recorded, so it can never repeat. Every other white noise app plays a sound file on a loop. It works for a while. Then, somewhere around the twenty-minute mark, your brain finds the seam — and once it has heard it, it listens for it. The thing that was supposed to hide the world becomes the thing you are paying attention to. Sound Terrain has no file to loop. The sound is synthesised sample by sample, all night, and no two seconds of it are ever the same. One surface. Everything is a point on it. No sliders. No mixer. No twelve-band equaliser to fight with in the dark. Drag a single puck across a surface: · Left to right — light to dark. White, through pink, into brown, and further, into a low register most noise apps never reach. · Top to bottom — still to swelling. Slow waves that move through the sound over fifteen or twenty seconds, like weather. Never a rhythm; a rhythm is something to listen to. Find a sound. Name it. It appears as a chip above the surface, and from that night on, playing it is one tap. Built for the dark True black, so an OLED screen emits nothing it does not have to. Controls that recede rather than announce themselves. A timer shown as a ring that quietly closes — never a countdown, because a number is a thing a sleepless person will lie there watching. The sound fades out over three minutes. Silence that simply arrives will wake you. Honest about what it is One purchase. No subscription, no account, no advertising, no analytics — the app has no server to send anything to, and makes no network requests at all. Your saved sounds are a name and two numbers, kept on your phone. Works with the lock screen, Control Centre, AirPlay, any headphones, and VoiceOver.
