RoughCut turns raw talking-head footage into a reviewed rough cut for Final Cut Pro — in minutes, on your Mac.
You record the way you always do: multiple takes, restarts, thinking pauses, tangents. RoughCut transcribes the video locally, word by word, then an AI editing pass marks what a human editor would remove — keeping your last clean take, dropping the flubs, trimming the dead air. You get a frame-accurate FCPXML that opens in Final Cut Pro linked to your original media. Nothing is re-rendered.
YOU STAY THE EDITOR
Every proposed cut appears in a review list with its transcript and a confidence score, sorted so the doubtful ones are on top. Flip any decision, hit Recompute, and the timeline rebuilds instantly.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your footage never leaves your Mac. Speech recognition runs locally (one-time model download, ~1.6 GB). For bad-take detection, only transcript text goes to the AI — using your own Google Gemini or OpenAI key, stored in the macOS Keychain. No account, no servers of ours, no analytics.
FAIR PRICING
Try it properly: your first 5 cuts are free. One one-time purchase unlocks it forever — no subscription. AI usage is billed by your provider at their rates (typically a few cents per video); silence-only cutting works with no key at all.
WORKS WITH FINAL CUT PRO
Add RoughCut as a Final Cut Pro share destination (one-time setup, step-by-step in the app's Help) and send clips over without ever leaving Final Cut. A free Transcribe Only tool is built in — the same hallucination-resistant engine as pure transcription, exporting SRT that imports straight back into Final Cut as captions.
