VERT reads your iPhone's barometer, so it shows your altitude with no internet, no account and no waiting for a signal. It records your whole day — the climb, the descent, the map, the photographs — and it saves continuously, so nothing is lost if the app closes.
WHY THIS ONE
• Never loses your day. Recording is written to disk as it happens. Close the app, run out of battery, walk into a gorge — the day is still there.
• Needs no internet. The barometer works everywhere. The map loads later, in the valley, on wifi.
• Honest numbers. The altitude carries the accuracy Apple itself reports — a real ± figure, never a comforting invention. A flat day looks flat.
• Your own photographs behind the number, keyed to the altitude they were taken at.
WHAT IT RECORDS
• Altitude, elevation gain and loss, maximum height
• Hiking and skiing, each with its own numbers
• Ski runs and vertical drop, with lifts detected and excluded — a gondola never counts as something you climbed
• Steps and walking distance from Apple Health, so a bus ride never inflates your day
• Your track on a map, with photos from that day placed along it
