The Citadel

Listen to the Stoics every day

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Listen to the real words of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus, read aloud, about the situations you face every day. Citadel lets you listen to the real words of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus, read aloud over calm music or rain. Each track is about one situation from real life. When your boss criticises you in front of others, you play "Master Your Anger". When you lie awake worrying about something that may never happen, you play "To Stop Suffering Things That Never Happen". You hear what the Stoics said about exactly that situation, in their own words, with nothing added. WHAT YOU GET FROM CITADEL • Things that happen to you stop ruining your day. • Setbacks become something you can use, instead of something that knocks you over. • When you need discipline or courage, you have it, instead of waiting until you feel like it. • You stop worrying about what you can't control, and put your energy into what you can. WHAT IS IN THE APP • More than 50 audio tracks: quotes from Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus, and affirmations based on Stoic principles. • Today's Practice: choose what you need today (for example, staying calm before a hard conversation), and the app picks one quote track and one affirmation track for it. • Four focuses to browse by: Stillness, Resilience, Self-Mastery and Freedom. • 30-day programs: every day you listen to one track and answer a few short questions about your own life. • A daily streak and reminders at the times you choose. • A Stoic quote on your Home Screen, and today's intention on your Lock Screen. • Save quotes and make them your wallpaper.
