Converting a large number of samples no longer looks like the app has frozen. It was never the conversion itself that was slow. TonVault was drawing the entire list of files before it showed you anything, which on a card with several thousand samples meant a long wait with nothing on screen and no way out. It now builds the list as you scroll it, tells you how far along it is, and lets you stop. If you do stop, the files that already finished are complete and stay where they are, and the rest are left untouched. Backups and verification show their progress the same way. Duplicate detection is also considerably faster on cards with many samples of the same size, because it now compares the beginning of a file first and only reads the whole thing when it has to. Thank you to bengersfood on Elektronauts, who ran into the conversion problem on almost five thousand files and described it clearly enough to find all three causes behind it.

Another memory fix, this time in the duplicate check. Comparing files on a card with many samples could hold a whole file in memory at once instead of reading it a small piece at a time, so scanning a large card used far more memory than it needed to. Fixes a problem where scanning a card with unusual audio files could use far more memory than it should, in the worst case enough to slow a Mac to a halt. TonVault now checks a file's own header before handing it to the system audio reader, so a file that misreports its length can no longer cause that. Scanning a card with many files also uses noticeably less memory. Thank you to verdurin on Elektronauts for reporting it with the numbers that made it findable.

TonVault can now fix the problem it has always reported. When the health check finds samples that are not at 48 kHz, you can convert them in one step. The converted files are written as new copies in a folder you choose on your Mac, with the bit depth and channels left as they were. The originals on your card are never changed. Before anything is written you see exactly what will happen: each file's current rate, the rate it will end up at, and how its size will change. Samples that belong to a multi-sampled instrument are marked, because those instruments play ranges measured inside the original file and so keep using it.

Duplicate cleanup now understands your presets. When one copy of a duplicate is used by a preset, that is the copy TonVault keeps, so tidying up duplicates can no longer move away a sample something still points at. If more than one copy is in use, the group is left alone and TonVault says why. Samples that belong to a multi-sampled instrument are now marked in the library, including the auto-sampled instruments that store every key zone inside a single file.
