Watching a movie? Tell SongCatcher. • Tap the listening bar and choose Movie / TV. It listens through the whole film, credits included, and never mistakes the score for a live band. • Type the film's name and the songs are filed under it when you stop. • Anything, Live show or Movie / TV: one choice, right where you listen. Every session starts on Anything. • Filing where you've filed before puts that event first, one tap. • Catches the next song sooner after one ends.

SongCatcher now listens at live shows. • At a concert or festival it listens for the melody and offers its best guess as a "maybe". You decide: "That's it" or "No". Nothing is added unless you say so. • Tell it who's playing, and that artist's songs are caught without asking. • A session keeps going for as long as the show does. • Events show up to four of their covers, and an event filed as Home is named in full, like "Wednesday evening at home in Redmond".

A better start for anyone new to SongCatcher. • See it before you try it. The intro now shows a catch from start to finish with the microphone off. Nothing listens until you tap Listen yourself. • Your first catch, step by step. Tips follow along as you go: when it's listening, how to stop, which song you just caught, and what keeping it adds. • No silent dead ends. If the microphone is turned off, the Listen tip says where to turn it back on.

Fewer wrong songs, and an easier end to a session. • Catches you can trust. SongCatcher now waits to hear a song twice before adding it, so a noisy room or a live band is far less likely to leave songs you never heard in your history. Real songs simply show up a few seconds later. • Skip is right beside File it. When you stop listening, turning down the offer to file the session is one tap at the bottom of the screen. • See the name first. The event you're about to create now shows at the top of the sheet, and it changes as you pick a kind or type a name.

Keep what you catch, and keep the night together. • Keep, not save. Tap the bookmark to keep a song, and it gets its meaning, the artist's story and a translation. Every catch shows its full lyrics straight away, kept or not. • File a whole session in one tap. Stop listening and SongCatcher offers to keep everything you caught as one event, already named — "Friday night Gym at Town Center". • Twelve kinds of event, from Night out and Concert to Gym, Yoga, Dance, TV, Home and Café. It remembers what you picked at a place, so the next visit names itself. • Cleaner catches in DJ sets. A mix that flickers between two tracks, or a remix filed under a second name, no longer adds songs you didn't hear. • A new first run that catches a song before explaining anything, and asks about location on that song — turn on location and you can find songs by where you heard them.

Your catches can belong to a night now. • Bundle songs into an event — a concert, a yoga class, a bar you were in — and the whole set lives under one name instead of scattered down the timeline. File a whole night in one go from Caught, pick the songs by hand on your shelf, or add one the moment you save it. • Saved has a fourth way to look at itself: by event. And every saved song now says which night it belongs to, so the one that made it into the set is never confused with the one that didn't. • Share a night the way you already share a catch — a ticket stub with the setlist printed down it, and a link anyone can open.

The microphone really does come back after a phone call now. • A call that ends while SongCatcher is in your pocket no longer leaves the session deaf. The last update fixed one way this went wrong and missed another: the app was reaching for the microphone in the same instant the call was still letting go of it, and ending up holding one that wasn't there — silently, with no sign anything was wrong. It now notices it has been handed silence, and takes the microphone again properly. • If you have ever come back to a long session that caught nothing after a call, that was this, and not a quiet room.

Catches that used to slip away, a microphone that survives a call in your pocket, and answers the app stops losing. CATCHING • A match SongCatcher wasn't sure enough of to write down is now held rather than dropped. A song that is really playing says its name again a moment later, and the second time the catch lands. A noisy room never says the same thing twice, and still gets nowhere. • The microphone comes back after a phone call that ends while SongCatcher is in your pocket. It was taking the microphone back correctly and then being put to sleep before a single sound arrived, so a session could run on for minutes hearing nothing at all. ON A SONG • Closing a song page no longer throws away the meaning or translation being written for it. That work is spent from your daily allowance the moment it is asked for, so leaving the page was losing the answer and then paying again to ask the same question. • An artist's Instagram, once confirmed, is remembered. It was being found and then lost by the next launch, and the second look-up sometimes came back "no account" — turning a right answer into a wrong one. • A song page no longer fails to fill in simply because several of its parts were asked for at the same moment. • "Find on Instagram" has left songs you haven't saved. On an unsaved song that button only ever said the app didn't know. A confirmed account still appears on every song. WHERE A SONG OPENS • Deezer's button is back for anyone who listens there. The service SongCatcher asked for those links withdrew free access, and the app was writing the silence down as "this song opens nowhere" and never asking again. It now looks Deezer up directly, and a question that went unanswered is no longer filed as an answer. • Songs caught while that was happening get one more look. • Tidal, Amazon Music, Pandora and the others that came from the same source are still missing, and the app no longer pretends otherwise. Apple Music, Spotify and searching were unaffected throughout.

Follow the artists you catch, sessions that end themselves, and a song page that keeps to the music. FOLLOW THE ARTIST • A song page now offers the artist's Instagram, beside their name. Where the account is confirmed it is named — @theartist — so you can see who you are about to follow before you tap. • Where it isn't confirmed, the button says so and offers a search instead. A guess dressed as an answer would send you to a stranger, so SongCatcher hands you the question rather than the wrong person. LISTENING STOPS ITSELF • A session you forget about now ends on its own: after ten minutes of quiet, or an hour of listening. Both were quietly spending battery and your daily recognitions on a room nobody was in. • The hour is yours to change in Settings, and a session about to end says so first, with a tap to keep it going. A SONG PAGE ABOUT THE SONG • The name of the service that made the match is gone from the page. It was never anything you could act on. Where a song was matched by melody rather than by recording, how sure that match is still shows — that one is about the music. • The artist's story no longer disappears behind the listening bar at the end of a long read. FIXES • A phone call no longer costs you the rest of the session. SongCatcher takes the microphone back the moment the call ends, instead of waiting — and sometimes never waking up. • Lyrics lookups retry a dropped connection instead of giving up at the first stumble.

Songs you can send to someone, a say in where a catch opens, and a catch that shows you what it's holding back. SEND A SONG TO SOMEONE • Share a catch and it becomes a page anyone can open — artwork, title, artist, where and when you heard it. On an iPhone with SongCatcher installed the link opens the app rather than the browser, and everyone else gets the page. • A preview sits in front of the share sheet with a switch for every fact, labelled with the fact itself — "Playa del Carmen", not "Location". Place, date and a line of the meaning start on. Your own note starts off, because publishing your writing should be a decision. • Lyrics and street addresses are never shared. There is nowhere in a shared page to put them. WHERE A CATCH OPENS • Choose which services a song links out to: Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube Music, YouTube, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, Bandcamp, Qobuz and Pandora — plus Google when you would rather just search. New installs start with Apple Music and Spotify; change it whenever you like in Settings. • A button now appears only when SongCatcher holds a link to that exact track, so tapping one lands on the song instead of a page of search results. Spotify and Google are always there — their own search finds the rest. ON A SONG • A catch you haven't saved shows what is waiting rather than an empty screen: the first line of the lyrics readable, the rest behind glass, and a plain list of what a save opens. • When no lyrics database has the song, you can search the web from the song page and paste in what you find — translation and meaning run straight after, whatever the words' origin. And where there are no lyrics to be had at all, SongCatcher can tell you about the song instead. • Tap the artwork to fill the screen with it. HEARD IT AGAIN • A song counts as heard again only if something else played in between, rather than every time it is still on. • The listening drawer says a song is still playing instead of going quiet, and a row that comes back around is picked up and set down in the current session. FIXES • SongCatcher now recovers when the microphone goes quiet without saying so, instead of listening to nothing until you relaunch. • Leaving a song page no longer switches the microphone off. • One recording that two recognisers credit to different artists now folds into a single catch instead of two. • Arranging your saved songs by artist no longer resizes every cover on the shelf. • A song that no lyrics source has now gives up sooner, instead of holding the page while it waits.

A brand-new introduction, and four songs waiting before you catch your first. THE FIRST RUN IS NEW — the intro's last screen listens for real, so the song it names is yours to keep; four clearly-marked sample songs so nothing starts empty; brief tips that point at the Listen button, the bookmark and the Saved shelf then retire themselves; a new "What it can do" page in Settings. ON A SONG — non-English lyrics open beside their translation; the artist's story is no longer cut off by the Listen button. WHERE YOU HEARD IT — arranging your shelf by place explains what location does, and is straight that it only applies from then on. FIXES — a crash when stopping a session; recovery when iOS restarts its audio system; a Settings button that could stop responding.

Sharper recognition, and more control over what you've caught. • Quiet rooms no longer produce phantom songs. SongCatcher now checks that something is actually playing before it spends a lookup, so radio chatter, audiobooks and comedy sets stop landing in your history as music. • That also means a silent room no longer eats into your daily lookup limit. • Weak matches are turned away rather than written down — and a strong match that came back second in the list is no longer discarded along with the first. • Hear a song twice in one session and it returns to the top of Caught with a ×2 badge, a brief flare so you can see why it moved, and a gentler tap than a fresh catch — instead of being quietly skipped. • Reduce Motion is respected: the row still lights up to show it moved, just without the movement. • The listening drawer now tells you what it's doing: which engine is working, and what the last few attempts turned up. • Places read as neighbourhood and city — "Ballard, Seattle". Songs you caught earlier are relabelled to match. • Remove an entire artist from Caught in one tap, or clear the whole library from Settings. Saved songs and the notes you wrote on them survive both.
