Import a project off your card, vary it, and write it back with its instruments and mixer untouched. New in this version. Patternaut is a Mac companion for hardware trackers. It makes patterns, varies them, and writes them to your SD card as the real files your machine already reads, so what you make on the Mac opens on the hardware with its effects, track names and samples intact. I built it because I kept losing ideas to the small screen. Programming a rhythm on the unit is fine when you know what you want. When you do not, staring at an empty grid at midnight is a poor way to find out. Press Generate and you get a beat: kick, snare, hat, usually some percussion carrying the device's own Chance effect so it keeps varying as it plays, often a bass line in the key you chose. Every press is a different one, and every result is reproducible from its seed, so a pattern you liked is a pattern you can have back. Mutate takes what is there and nudges it, gently or until it falls apart. You can also bring in what you already have. Point Patternaut at a project on your card and it reads the patterns, their names, the track names, the tempo and the instruments with their audio. Change it, and write it back into the same project without disturbing the instrument assignments, mixer or effects the machine keeps for itself. The editor is a tracker grid and works like one. Notes on the keyboard rows, two effect lanes per step with the device's own symbols and value ranges, undo on everything. What it does: • Generate: whole beats from a seed, in any of eleven scales • Mutate: four strengths, from subtle to chaotic • Edit: a keyboard-first grid with both effect lanes and per-step values • Export: .mtp patterns, .mt projects and .pti instruments, written the way the device writes them • Import: read a project off the card, including its sample audio • Samples: drop in a WAV and it becomes an instrument, converted to what the hardware plays What it does not do: there is no audio engine, so it does not play your patterns back. It is a companion to the machine, not a replacement for it, and it has no song mode. It runs entirely on your Mac. No account, no cloud, nothing sent anywhere, no analytics. $8.99, paid once. No subscription. Patternaut is not affiliated with or endorsed by Polyend.
