Just launched. 106 real species across five habitats (more coming soon!). Free, no ads, no accounts. Built by a biologist who wanted birding to be a game. Perchwise is a fast, focused game about noticing what everyone else misses. Birds cross the screen from every direction: some familiar, some rare, some nearly identical to each other. Your job is to spot every target species before the clock runs out. Spot every species once for the maximum challenge. No hand holding, no guaranteed wins. Every level is earned. As you play, you're not just reacting. You're building real attention and recognition skill, level by level, habitat by habitat. Every bird you correctly identify gets logged in your field notebook, complete with facts you'll remember. Mastering an entire habitat earns you a seal in your notebook you can look back on. Lots of habitats. Lots of species. I could not stop until I completed all the levels :) I don’t know that it would necessarily help with ID skills for someone who isn’t a birder, but I had a great time clicking on birds I like and it was a fun and engaging activity to try to marathon them. I appreciated the inclusion of west coast birds like STJA and VERD. A few times the only time a bird came across the screen it would be overlapping with another species and clicking it would be considered a wrong answer, which was frustrating, but that’s my only gameplay critique. It would be nice to have some female birds in there (minus the BEKI since she already was), and a diving duck (and affiliated like grebes) level where you ID them as they pop up from the water could be really fun!!

Thank you for such a detailed review! I will start working on two things ASAP: fixing the overlapping birds issue, which should never cost you a correct answer, and female versions of the species.The diving duck and grebe idea is excellent, birds surfacing and submerging would make an amazing additional challenge! I am definitely adding it to my list.Glad the west coast species were appreciated, and more levels & species are on the way!

Fixed an issue where new installs could briefly show outdated content on first launch. Added Bird Size and Found Birds display options in Settings.
