Backburn 5.0 • Forecast: outlined cells show exactly where the fire will be after your next Advance, with a ring on any structure that turn would lose. It redraws as you change orders. • Undo: step back any order placed since the last Advance. • Daily Incident: a new incident every date, generated on your device from an authored map with the wind turned and a fresh random sequence. First finished attempt counts, practise freely, keep a streak and share a text result card. • Difficulty: choose Recruit, Standard or Veteran in each briefing. Standard plays exactly as before; Veteran records Veteran stars. • Service Record: nineteen local commendations and your career totals. • Field Training now waits for you to do each step, and Harrow Bench has its own lesson. • Briefings introduce each new resource type the first time it appears. • iPad keyboard shortcuts (Space, Command-Z, F, R, 1 to 7, [ ], H, Esc), VoiceOver map summaries, labelled settings and a high-contrast overlay option. • Fixes: the selection ring stays when a resource with a line order is selected, and clearer messages when water, loads or reach run out. Your 4.0 progress, settings and saved incidents carry over. Backburn remains a fictional, offline strategy game, not wildfire guidance.

4.0: Strategy Lab Strategy Lab branches from the current map to compare keeping orders, holding ground crews, or resting once before resuming. Explore one to six turns and share the turn-by-turn differences. • Open an active incident → Decision Desk → Strategy Lab. • Choose a horizon from one to six turns and run strategy branches. • Compare acres, fire cells, line added, structures, injuries and wind; return to your unchanged incident. Each branch uses a copy of the incident and stops when it ends. Aircraft and previously placed treatments remain unchanged. Later player choices are not anticipated. This is a fictional game, not wildfire guidance.

Backburn 3.0 adds Decision Desk for isolated next-turn rehearsals, saved incident resumption, previous-attempt timeline comparisons, a visible Move tool and an exact incident weather schedule. Gust fronts, inversion lifts and spotting-pressure events now affect the simulation. This update also fixes the twenty-minute clock, same-incident restart, daily aircraft load resets, audio restart races, misleading debrief text and silent save failures. All campaign briefings and Field Guide articles now describe the actual game mechanics, with clearer scoring and recovery information.

Backburn 2.0 — the fire tells its story. THE INCIDENT TIMELINE — every scenario now ends with the whole run drawn: acres burned turn by turn, the wind shifts, the spot fires, the structures lost, the containment flag — and when it went wrong, the exact turn it got away, named on the chart. Under the hood, the engine now records a full per-turn log of every incident, so the after-action report is built from what actually happened — nothing reconstructed, nothing summarised away. Also in 2.0: the after-action report scrolls properly on smaller phones, and the interface has been decluttered so the map is always the whole screen.
