Learn languages by playing games, watching videos, reading websites, books, and using apps. When a word or phrase gets in the way, press a keyboard shortcut. Termy reads the text on your screen, recognizes the expression in context, and gives you a short, clear explanation—so you can understand it and keep going. Termy is built for immersion. It helps only where you need it instead of translating everything. Use it with selectable or unselectable text, from game dialogue and subtitles to articles, ebooks, terminal output, and AI chats. LEARN IN CONTEXT • Understand individual words, idioms, phrasal verbs, and multiword expressions • Get concise explanations matched to the meaning used in the original sentence • Switch to translation when you want a direct answer • Listen to pronunciation without leaving what you are doing • Rewind dialogue with Time Machine • Better recognition, including vertical text • The right language for each capture • See how Chinese, Japanese, and Korean words are built • Choose “Download offline dictionary” for your learning language, then use it without making network requests. BUILD A VOCABULARY THAT MEANS SOMETHING • Use the bookmark icon in any bubble to save a word manually, or turn on “Automatically save words to vocabulary” to keep saving words as you go. • Save useful words and phrases with their original sentence and screenshot • Return to the original scene, deeper definitions, and other meanings • Keep inflected forms connected to their dictionary form • Export your vocabulary to Anki REVIEW WHAT YOU ACTUALLY ENCOUNTERED Termy turns saved vocabulary into adaptive practice: context questions, fill-in-the-blank prompts, typing, listening, screenshot recall, and reviews timed to your memory. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Text recognition happens on your Mac. Screenshots are never uploaded; saved screenshot context stays on your device. Only recognized text needed for explanations is processed online. SUPPORTED LANGUAGES Learn from content in 30 languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Thai, Swedish, Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Croatian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Greek, and Slovak. • This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.

• Training has a new layout with clearer questions and answer feedback. Progress is easier to follow, and screenshot exercises use your saved context with a larger viewer for a closer look. Typed answers allow differences in capitalization and accents. Small spelling mistakes can count as “Almost.” Correct a mistaken grade with “I was right,” or remove a word from Training and undo the removal. • Translate a whole paragraph: hold Command and click text during an online AI capture. Standalone labels and controls translate as single lines. This works in Time Machine too. Move a translation bubble by the empty strip above its first line; reopening a translation in the same overlay reuses the result without another request. • Detailed word bubbles have a new Synonyms tab. Updated offline dictionaries provide synonyms where available. Expand “Examples” under a dictionary meaning to see its example sentences. • In supported languages, nouns show their article or gender. Saved nouns keep that information in Vocabulary and Training, as well as Anki exports. • Text recognition groups paragraphs more reliably and reads more small or fragmented text, including words cut off at the edge. French and Italian offline dictionaries find more words joined to articles. • Word details open and scroll faster, and bubble tabs switch more smoothly. Vocabulary shows dictionary meanings or translations in bold when they match an AI result. • Redesigned onboarding, feedback and subscription screens. The automatic word-saving option is now in Settings → Shortcut. • On macOS 15.2 and later, if you decline permission to capture without Apple’s window picker, your shortcut can use the picker. Termy reuses your chosen window or display for captures within that selection. The picker’s menu bar icon appears only while Termy captures. You can grant the permission later in Settings → Permissions. • Closing the overlay over another app no longer briefly flashes Termy’s window. Fullscreen captures also keep some games, including Ren’Py games, from looking slightly smaller and shifted down and to the left.
