Your quests follow you Quests in progress are now kept by your account: after signing out, or on another Mac, you pick them up where you left off. Toplings also waits until your progress is saved before signing you out. Also: a run of days in a row no longer breaks when your Mac’s date is set back or you change time zones.

Purchases that go through On some Macs, the payment window opened without its purchase button or Touch ID: another app kept a window on top of it, sometimes an invisible one, and macOS then hides the confirmation. During a purchase, Toplings now brings its window to the front. Also: a rare visitor can no longer be eaten by a predator in your flock, so the day’s visit is no longer lost.

Quests that finally count “Come back after a quarter of an hour away” now counts even when your Mac’s display went to sleep while you were gone — which is almost always the case on a laptop. The days-in-a-row quest now shows your current streak instead of your best one, so it no longer looks stuck after a missed day. And time spent offline is detected more reliably. Also: the technical log you can attach to “Report a problem” no longer contains what you type in Toplings (letters, sign-in details).

Purchases and letters that go all the way During a purchase, your Toplings and their toys fade away while Apple’s payment sheet is on screen, so nothing covers the Buy button or Touch ID; they come back exactly as they were. Writing a letter or naming a Topling in Chinese, Japanese or Korean finally works: characters no longer come out before you pick them, and the list of messengers no longer jumps back to the top while you scroll it. Also: the free ball, ping-pong paddle, cage and treat can now be taken out from the Shop; a habitat goal, like the dodo’s, now names the habitat it counts; a Topling thrown hard downwards now gets hurt whatever its species, and the healing quest explains how; and small creatures no longer get stuck in a corner turning back and forth.

Clearer purchases When the App Store can’t open a payment, Toplings now says so plainly instead of claiming the server can’t be reached. Closing the Apple Account prompt during Restore Purchases no longer leaves it waiting. Also: the Pasture no longer stops syncing partway through a session, so the gold your herd earns is no longer held back until you relaunch the app; a Topling’s profile keeps its scroll position while it updates; and linking an account no longer makes your pasture disappear on some Macs.

A break whenever you like A meeting, a screen share, a game? In the icon menu, Pause puts your Toplings away for 30 minutes, 1 hour or until tomorrow, and they come back on their own. Settings → General can also hide them from screenshots and screen sharing: you still see them, others don’t. Clearer quests The page of a species you have yet to unlock now shows the Toplings that move its quest forward: for take-offs, the ones that can fly. Also: Toplings uses less energy while your Toplings sleep or graze, relaunching the app reopens its window, a double-click no longer buys twice, a discarded letter no longer comes back, and the axolotl no longer shrinks while grazing.

Your unlocks follow you A species you unlock by playing, through a quest or by catching a rare visitor, is now kept by your account: you get it back on your other Macs and PCs, and after signing back in. Also: letters typed in a creature’s page are no longer lost, and the name chosen for an adoption clears once the creature is adopted.

Tidy up in one gesture The game bar now holds out a bin: drop a Topling on it to put it away, instead of aiming for the top of the screen. Objects on the desktop answer a right-click too. The bar also steps aside for a full-screen video. Toplings runs on every Mac Toplings is now a universal app: it runs on Intel Macs as well as Apple Silicon, from macOS 13 on. Also: the bell panel keeps its title while the list scrolls, fifty avatars got a face, and the browser extension keeps its link with Firefox.

A new welcome Toplings now opens on a new screen: sign in right away to get your herd back, without going through setup again. Signing back in no longer replays your unlock announcements. Referrals: a friend who enters your code now counts, even without an account.

Smoother letters The Reply button now responds as you type. The window closes as soon as you send; if your letter is rejected, your draft returns with its text and images. You can now type a reply in a letter card from the first click.

Drag an accessory onto your Topling, adjust it pose by pose, and pass it on to another Topling whenever you want. • Your toplings have a world of their own: Pick from ten biomes, paint the land, and place buildings and decorations with your gold coins. Move, flip, and resize anything however you like. Create multiple free maps and expand each one plot by plot. Your herd stays the same, and your creations save on this device and with your account. • Create your own Topling: Your pet, yourself, or a character of your own: send photos and get a pixel twin, alive on your desktop. AI draws your companion and its animations. Its egg stays with you during creation. Your topling hatches when its animations are ready. Its spot is included. • Breeding lab: Two parents, an unexpected meeting. Discover the companion who inherits their traits. A birth includes your new topling and its spot, even if your flock is full. Generation takes about 5 minutes, depending on the queue. Appearance stays a surprise until hatching.

• The welcome guide now finishes its sentences: its speech bubble no longer restarts, it faces you while it talks, and the avatar step shows the guardian you picked at full size. • On some Macs, Toplings asked for your login password at launch. It no longer does, and a "Recover my identity" option keeps your friend code if anything looks off. • A creature hidden behind a window now takes its parachute, name tag and carried items with it. • Coding agents: the "all done" celebration waits until every background agent has really finished, and an installed hook updates itself. • The naming field keeps what you type, and the sign-in code stays in place while you enter it. • A background loop introduced in 1.1 kept contacting our server thousands of times an hour from a single Mac. Retries now wait their turn, and purchases still go through right away. • Purchase, sync and stability fixes.
