56 lessons, a solar system you can fly around, and a reminder before every eclipse and meteor shower. No account, no ads, works completely offline.
Cosmos 101 is a complete introduction to astronomy: a solar system you can fly around, 56 lessons that run from your own back garden to the edge of the observable universe, and a calendar of real sky events with a reminder before each one.
EXPLORE THE SOLAR SYSTEM IN 3D
Drag to orbit, pinch to zoom, tap any world to open its story. The Sun and all eight planets are wrapped in real photographic surface maps and tilted at their true axial angles - Uranus lying on its side, Venus turning backwards. Every card gives you the diameter, the distance from the Sun, the length of a day, the number of moons, and one fact worth repeating.
56 LESSONS ACROSS TEN TOPICS
The Solar System · The Planets · The Moon · The Sun · Stars · Galaxies · Cosmology · Comets & Asteroids · Exploring Space · Night Sky Basics
Each lesson is a two-to-five-minute read, grouped into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced tiers so you can start wherever you like and work your way up. Nothing is left as jargon, and there is no maths you didn't ask for.
DIAGRAMS THAT MOVE
Seventeen animated diagrams sit inside the lessons, right where the explanation needs them: the Moon turning through its phases, a star running out of fuel and collapsing, Earth's tilt swinging through the seasons, the solar wind lighting up the auroras, light stretching across the electromagnetic spectrum, and the universe expanding.
QUIZZES THAT ACTUALLY TEACH
Every lesson ends with a quiz - 146 questions in all. Choose a wrong answer and it explains itself, rules itself out, and hands the question back to you, so you stay with it until it clicks. A lesson only counts as complete when every question is answered correctly. Your progress follows you across your devices through iCloud.
NEVER MISS AN EVENT AGAIN
Nineteen date-verified sky events through to mid-2027: the total solar eclipse over Iceland and Spain, the great eclipse over Egypt, the Perseids, Geminids and Quadrantids, Comet 2P/Encke's best return since 2003, Jupiter meeting Mars before dawn, Saturn and Jupiter at opposition. Each event tells you what you need - naked eye, binoculars or telescope - and exactly where and when to look. Filter the list down to the kinds you care about, tap the bell, and Cosmos 101 reminds you an hour before it begins.
RED LIGHT MODE
One switch tints the whole app deep red, so you can check a lesson or an event at the telescope without losing your dark adaptation.
QUIET BY DESIGN
No account to create, no ads, no tracking, nothing phoning home. Every lesson, diagram, quiz and event is bundled with the app and works with no connection at all.
Clear skies.
