dear diary is a voice journal with one rule: every word stays on this device.
Tap record and talk. Your phone turns your voice into text right there, using Apple's on device speech. The entry is saved on your phone, with the audio and the words together. Nothing is uploaded. There is no account to make, no cloud to sync to, and no analytics watching you.
You can check the claim yourself. The app carries a "0 bytes sent" ledger that explains exactly what happens to your audio at every step, and onboarding invites you to turn on airplane mode and keep journaling. That is the whole point.
In the app:
- Record with pause and resume, and watch your words appear as you speak
- Every entry keeps its audio and its transcript together, and the transcript is yours to edit
- A journal timeline with a calendar heatmap and a streak count
- Search across everything you have said, run entirely on this device
- A gentle reflection prompt after each entry. On phones with Apple Intelligence the prompt is drawn from your own words, on this device. On other phones it is a fixed prompt, and the app says so honestly
- Export everything as a single backup file, and import it back losslessly
- A wipe control that erases everything, because your journal is yours to destroy too
- Dark and light themes, and respect for your reduced motion setting
The one download: iOS fetches Apple's speech model once, from Apple, so the app can work with no internet after that. Your voice never rides along.
