It unlocks nothing, removes no limits, and is handled entirely by Apple. It appears only behind the grown-up gate, never on your child's screen - Besides the default math question, the grown-up gate can now use a 4-digit passcode instead (forgot it? delete and reinstall the app to reset) This update also fixes a rare issue where the app could open to a black or frozen screen on some devices.
